I'd highly recommend checking out East of Eden by John Steinbeck if you've never read it. Very similar vibes from what I've read so far of Lonesome Dove, and one of the most genuinely beautiful books I've ever read.

Both wonderfully written and illustrated in their own ways, and each had me sobbing uncontrollably at various times.

I know it's gonna drive me crazy and I don't want to ruin the glow of a game I loved.

I also don't really do matchmaking, so I wasn't worried about that too much. My main issue with DS2 was that I'm not a fan of a lot of the midgame zones. But the last 3rd or so is incredible. And going with a Hexer build honestly made the game super easy.

Even if you have some help in the beginning, there's still a massive replayability factor. Playing through all the Souls games was my Covid project and it was one of my most fulfilling gaming journeys.

I'm sitting at 60/63 achievements, and I think one of those is choosing the other ending in the game, but the other two are White's heaven/hell rushes. Still deciding how much I'm willing to torture myself to attempt to complete those.
Kind of weird to get started with the Hexer build, but I'm pretty sure this was the guide I followed to get going. Once I had all the core stuff, it was smooth sailing. Obviously there were a couple of tougher zones, but I never felt like I got really stuck.
