I agree that the series has lost its way, and the rot arguably started to set in with MGSIV. I loved Guns of The Patriots, but it was honestly more of a movie than a game and it felt like Kojima was actively trying to end things for the fans. Tying up all the loose ends, bringing all of the characters storylines to a close. Rising and Peace Walker were excellent additions to the franchise, but felt a bit vestigial.
Finally, we ended up with Ground Zeroes and The Phantom Pain. Bleh.
I was never an avid fan of Silent Hill, though SH2 is an obvious classic of the medium and I have fond memories of playing it on the Xbox. I can't speak to the direction the series has taken because I haven't followed it.
As for Resident Evil, I think the franchise is undergoing something of a renaissance. The remakes of 2 and 3 were sensitively done - especially 2 - and utilize the modern engine to breathtaking effect. The integration of 4-style controls with 2-style atmosphere was seamless. RE2 remake feels like the definitive version of the experience, which is saying a lot.
As for 7 and Village, it's worth remembering that first person titles have always had a place in the RE canon (the Gun Survivor spinoff games). I haven't had a chance to play them yet, but I'm optimistic.

This book has been sitting on my "to read" list for a while, since I finished Mikaberidze's The Napoleonic Wars: A Global History and found myself wanting more context.
Once I've finished this book, perhaps I'll finally be well-versed in French revolutionary history to actually enjoy Victor Hugo's Ninety Three!

It's a lovely physical object and I really enjoy the form factor, but being the compact model it is a tad slow. If I were to ever need a new one I'd look for one of its bigger brothers from the same line.

End of Eternity/Resonance of Fate is that game. It still hasn't quite "clicked" for me.
Pharoah Sanders's debut album Tauhid never fails to captivate me - I've listened to it twice this week.
