Firstly, thank you for providing a study. The findings are interesting, though I don't think the findings show that women will support blanket bans on transgender women in women's sport. In the study, you're right that the majority of women surveyed agree on segregating women's sports by biological sex (58.4%). However, I found other findings interesting. 94.2% of participants "agreed that individuals should be able to transition from one gender to another in society" and a non insignificant 44.4% of respondents indicated they would support segregating sports by gender rather than sex. A whopping 81.1% of respondents indicated "that governing bodies could be doing more to make sport more inclusive for transgender athletes" and 66.2% said that "transgender athletes are treated unfairly across all sports". 54.5% of respondents also answered yes to "Should your sport’s governing body make it be possible for people to switch sex categories" which is an important one.

Additionally, the conclusion states that "Nevertheless, most participants (~47%) believed it was unfair for trans women to compete in the female category of contact sports and sports heavily reliant on physical capacity, compared to ~ 38% considering it fair (Figure 1a)". 15% of respondents indicated a 3 out of 5 on that question, which really could go either way and wasn't mentioned in the conclusion. So while 47% answered with a 1 or a 2 and 38% answered with a 4 or a 5, that doesn't necessarily mean that the majority of respondents do not support trans women in women's sports. It means more respondents indicated they are specifically against it than those that indicated they are for it, but there's still a middle ground cohort.

The conclusion I'd draw is that the field was pretty split on how to segregate sports (with a bias towards segregation based on sex), but that there isn't evidence to support the field would agree with a blanket ban of trans women and intersex women from women's sport. Based on how many respondents thought that transgender athletes are treated unfairly, I would guess that most respondents would prefer a more fair solution than a blanket ban. With the 54.5% of respondents that answered yes to "Should your sport’s governing body make it be possible for people to switch sex categories", and 58.4% answering yes to "Do you believe sport should be categorised by biological sex?", I'd also question if a number of respondents include trans women in women's sport even when voting to segregate based on sex.

That was a super long winded analysis by me, but the tldr of what I concluded from that data is that while I agree that the study shows nearly half of participants think it's unfair for trans women to participate in contact/physical women's sports, there is nothing there to indicate specific regulations the respondents would support and that I'd bet they would want a more careful approach than a blanket ban, considering the overwhelming support of transgender people in general. Despite the majority (58.4%) indicating they are okay segregating sport on sex, that also doesn't necessarily mean they think trans women should have to go compete against men.

The way I feel on all of this is that I want more equitable solutions for everybody to enjoy sport and I feel like blanket bans on trans women hurt more people than they help. I think governing bodies should instead be focusing on how to make sport more fair for everybody instead of telling trans women to just go play with the men.

I was addicted to the women’s weightlifting last Olympics and started weightlifting, myself! I’ve made some good gains, but my best lift is a 300lb deadlift and the Olympian level lifters in the women’s 100+ kg weight class are doing over twice that. It’s fucking BONKERS and I love it!

This is so well said. We live in a world where it's mostly men making these regulations around transgender women in the name of "protecting women" when it's just lazy and hateful political theater while they do very little to actually progress women's sports.

It's also incredibly depressing seeing discussions on this subject on other social platforms as it's mostly men (and bots) trying to tell women how they should feel about transgender women. Obviously there are cis women out there with opinions on the subject as well, but it's just disgusting seeing how many people online only care about women's sports when a trans person is involved. They don't watch us play sports, they don't support our sports, but they care when they can enact their opinions and their "common sense" on us.

I don’t have a ton to say as I need to research how to do it yet, but now that I have a house and my own yard, I want to turn much of my yard into a pollinator garden and natural “garden”. My county(?) even gives grants of like $500 to get started. I don’t care much about having a green lawn, I’d rather have natural grasses and plants for critters to use. I’ll have to do some research this week on how to get started, but I know it can take a few years to get the results I want. So this year will be getting started on that as well as planting some flowers and stuff. I also want to get a tree for my backyard as it has none, so I’ll have to research trees as well.

I should just plot out what I want to do and come up with a plan. I’m pretty new to gardening.

I'm still playing a ton of Warhammer 40k: Kill Team. This game has very much become my main hobby for the time being. I'm enjoying meeting some new friends, rolling some dice, painting miniatures, etc. It feels good to be back in the miniature gaming space after a few years gone and I'm looking forward to the Starcraft miniatures game releasing soon! I'm pretty sure I'll be maining Zerg to start.

For vidya, I played and beat Outer Wilds. Thoughts below:

Outer Wilds Spoilers I thought the game was fun and the puzzles were very satisfying, but this didn't strike me as "one of the best games" or "one of the best indie games" of all time, like many people say it is. Obviously, it's just opinions, both mine and others, so it doesn't really matter, but it did not live up to the impossible hype for me. I vastly enjoyed the game and figuring out certain puzzles, like waiting outside the tower of knowledge to get sucked into the black hole with it so that you could float in from space is *super* satisfying. The puzzles were overall excellent and the time looping just added to the game and was never an annoyance. I enjoyed the world building and while the art style rubbed me wrong at first (I didn't like the tiny planets), it's clearly the better choice from a gameplay perspective and I came to love it. The most interesting parts to me were the Nomai texts for you to follow the story. I did love the gradual unraveling of the mystery and it did genuinely make me gasp in a couple of places. The first was when I found the living Nomai on the quantum moon and the other is when I found the display showing that the purpose of the time loop is so they can shoot the probe in every conceivable direction and that they've shot it over 9 million times now or whatever.

I did vastly enjoy the game and the story and puzzles absolutely hit for me, but I thought the ending was extremely predictable and didn't really stick with me as much as it does for other people. I think it's a great game, but it doesn't crack my top 10 or anything like that.

I'm also on the last act of Warhammer 40k: Boltgun and this game is amazing. I love bloody boomer shooters and it's just great :)

I also got back into Overwatch recently and play exclusively casually. I'm having a great time with it. Most matches are fun and most heroes I try are fun! I hadn't played much since around when Ashe was added to the game, so I've been away for a while, but it's fun to have a casual shooter in my rotation again. I don't play ranked or anything, but for casual play, I'm actually loving 5v5, so the opposite of @MagnaLynx21, ha. I've mostly been tanking, but I've been trying a number of the damage and support heroes that I haven't played before, as well.

I beat Space Marine 2 last week and also played a bit of the multiplayer. The game is pretty fun! I don’t see myself sticking with the co-op missions for that long, but it’s fun to blow up tyranids. I definitely had a blast with this cheesy shooter!

I’ve still been playing Kill Team as well and want to start to play in tournaments. I’m not able to make it to adepticon this year and I do miss going (I used to go for X-Wing miniatures), but I’ll be going to some local tournaments this year and I should be able to make it to adepticon next year! KT is rad and is definitely scratching my competitive miniature gaming itch. I’m still absolutely loving the hobby portion, as well, I’ve gotten really deep into painting and I’m enjoying the creative outlet!

I also tried out Marathon over the weekend. I’m a huge Bungie fangirl and I really want to love this game, but I think I just don’t “get” extraction shooters. There isn’t enough structure for me. It’s a shame because the gunplay is fantastic and the aesthetics are so striking and utterly unique! I want to explore this world more, but the gameplay loop of extractions isn’t compelling to me. I’ll have to wait and see on this one to see if they do anything interesting with the narrative, have pve events, or something like that.

I haven’t been playing any video games lately as I’ve been completely addicted to Warhammer 40k: Kill Team! The game is a ton of fun and I’m way, way more into the hobby aspect than I thought I’d be. I was very much missing a creative output in my life, so it’s been fulfilling to assemble and paint models and see the start to finish. I’ve been spending hours in my basement painting and decorating and I love it very much! Then when I take my painted models and go play a game, it’s just such a sublime feeling.

I absolutely love this game and the hobby around it and I have the free time (and money, lol) to support it right now. Right now I have squads for Angels of Death, Vespids, and Aquilons. I just did the base layer on my wolf scouts and celestian insidiants.

I guess right now it would be tabletop RPGs. I’m still playing tabletop games in general and I’m still playing video game RPGs, but I had been playing tabletop RPGs at least once a week for the last 13ish years and need a break.

I don’t suspect I’ve permanently moved on, but I definitely want a few years off and, if I go back, to play with some new groups. My previous groups just naturally fizzled over time as people entered different stages of their lives and that’s okay! I also had a sour moment that stuck with me for a while, so time off will be good.

I was running a game in a more lethal setting than we’re used to. I ran a few sessions to gauge things and then asked players for feedback before I built my world and a campaign. They all said they loved it, so I then spent weeks building a campaign and world from scratch! Well, after the next session, they then said they hated that system, which I had just spent like 40 hours building a world in, and spent money on books, too. It just left me sour and told me it’s time to take a few years off and come back completely fresh after exploring some other hobbies.

So time will tell if I go back. I still enjoy writing and acting and I do get to do both of those things in the right RPG group, but I want to explore war gaming for a bit, I missed it!

Some people play, but I did want to get back into something with good organized play support, so kill team seems to fit that right now, but because I’ve already got some BT minis and just got some new painting supplies, I may paint them up and play that too!

I got into Warhammer 40k: Kill Team! I used to play X-Wing miniatures competitively, but I’ve been out of the war gaming space since 2020. I’ve been missing it and wanted to push plastic dudes around a table again and roll dice.

So, the person that got me into X-Wing, which was a life changing game for me that had me make hundreds of friendships all around the world, he actually plays Kill Team and I asked him to teach me how to play. Not only did he do that, but he gave me some spare space marines and vespids that he wasn’t going to use!

I learned to play and went to a low stakes local tournament this weekend. I went 0-3 as expected, but I kept all three games close, losing 11-12, 11-12, and 12-14. The first two games were definitely winnable, but considering I’ve only played 5 games now, I’m absolutely going to make mistakes.

Ultimately, I think the game is a ton of fun. Even though it plays very differently, it’s pushing the same buttons that X-Wing did and is letting me flex my brain, strategize, and outplay people. I’m loving it!

I’m also excited to get back into the hobby aspect. I have a ton of time on my hands these days, so I’m looking forward to getting back into painting now that I need to in order to play.

The one downside is obviously the cost. Warhammer simply is not cheap. Kill Team is cheaper than Bighammer, but it’s still $70 per team and terrain packs are like $150 or more…

The last few weeks have been awful. I started doing okay, personally, as my health is finally under control, but now Minneapolis is being invaded by fascists. They’re going door to door and it’s far worse than any news outlet will report. Our community is together, we’re supporting each other, but it still really, really sucks. It keeps getting worse every day and I genuinely don’t know how to plan my future now, if I should stay and continue to fight back, or if I should start planning on moving to another country, which besides being a toooon of work, I’d be away from all of my family and friends.

I am going to be learning to play 40k Kill Team this week as I really miss playing miniatures games (I used to play X-Wing: The Miniatures Game competitively) and I’m excited for that, so I also picked up Rogue Trader as I’ve had it on my wishlist since release and I’m finally in the mood to play another cRPG. I’m only an hour in, so I don’t have much to say except it’s fun getting more into 40k lore, I’ve only known some surface level stuff until recently.

Shitty cars, lmao. So I’ve always been interested in cars and motorsports and stuff, but I didn’t start working on my own cars until about 10 years ago. It started with oil changes, spark plugs, and brakes, but now, tearing down an engine or swapping a transmission doesn’t phase me. While it’s nice to be able to do all this work myself and save a ton of money, the “in too deep” part is that I give myself any excuse possible to buy new tools and the way I value cars is utterly broken. I cringe at spending more than like $4k on a car, so my life is filled with turds that deserve to be pooped in, but I decide to fix them and like them instead.

For real, it’s a fun hobby and I do love cars, but I sometimes think it would be way easier if I were a normie and would be okay buying a 5 year old Honda civic as my only car, driving it for 10 years, repeat.

Since I started working on cars 10 years ago, I’ve owned 10 cars and had a handful more in my driveway at points (borrowing/swapping with my car friends). I’ll be buying another one or two this year as well…

I read your write up and that sounds like a ton of work, but it’s probably incredibly satisfying to be able to live through that nostalgia knowing that you yourself built it. I was actually just wondering the other day if there are people out there preserving that experience and not just the shows themselves.
