Watching food and cooking TV growing up probably didn't hurt either! Emeril and Rachael Ray were solidly entertainment, but Alton Brown was definitely foundational for learning more technique wise. I definitely got support from my mom in buying ingredients or small help with things, but really only as I expressed an interest in it or asked rather than being shown.

James Hoffmann initially comes across as a bit pretentious, but I've found his videos have really grown on me. Especially since playing around more with an AeroPress
I don't know that it delves a ton into the science side, but Brian Lagerstrom really clicks with me as far as his presentation style and the food he's making

Gave me absolute chills.
Arcade Fire - 2014 Reflektor tour. Not only did they sound great, but they put on SUCH a visual show/performance
Mumford and Sons - 2016 Wilder Mind. First time I ever saw a show at SPAC, and was so blown away by it that they've become the comparative measuring stick for whenever I see someone else performing there

They've got magnets built into the handles so you don't lose the set in a drawer or need to play around with hooking together onto a ring

Mainly just use that for making salsa, whereas the immersion is good for salad dressing, and soups. Part of that might be because mine came with attachments too though, for a whisk and a mini-chop when I can't justify getting the full size food processor dirty.

Ended up feeling so burned by it we were super hesitant to get any other small appliances that would just take up space and be unused. Only just got an air fryer 4 months ago, and wish we got that sooner

Largely lurked on Reddit for news/browsing, but the smaller communities (local subbreddit, etc) were where you could feel comfortable and give insight without getting "lost" in the noise. Seeing how abrupt and gung-ho they are with pushing changes that so many people are vocally against... A bit reminiscent of Tumblr when they pushed removing porn, though I don't think this will kill Reddit. Still though, just doesn't sit right with me. Just deleted my account

Related, I'd say my big attraction to cookbooks is they are published, edited, and (hopefully) recipe-tested. Searching for recipes online can be a minefield, because besides needing to filter through the fluff backstory, sometimes they just straight up don't work or come out as they should

Until then, a brief about me
Early 30's. Husband, father (toddler and a dog, name a more chaotic duo), bi (Happy Pride!) upstate NY-er
Likes:
Science (all kinds, though my background is Chemistry)
Nature (walks, kayaking)
Food and drinks (eating, cooking, coffee, beer)
Reading (been really into the Jack Reacher series recently)
YouTube (all over the place - TechMoan, America's Test Kitchen, and the new season of Jet Lag are what's on deck)
Obscure Simpsons references
I can vouch for this. Plus the container you get lasts forever
