My 1st class experience is entirely short distance and 90% of flights I take are on airlines with no business class. Think 5 hours or less, usually 2 or less. But, food and drinks have always been included and nothing ever required me taking out my wallet other than WiFi if I could reasonably expense it.

I will say this. If you can afford the more premium offerings on a longer trip, go for it. They are a relative luxury on your body compared to other offerings.

After having experienced it, I regularly think about paying the obscene upgrade fees. The older I get, the more I think about it. My personal cheapness always wins though, haha.

Edit: I just reread what you said. Yes, you could never drink enough to make up the cost difference! Especially when premium coach can often come with free drinks too.

I used to fly a lot of short distances for work. It got to the point where I was regularly upgraded. Champagne isn't too common (though I have seen it around dinnertime flights), but they absolutley offer you something upon boarding and take your in flight order before take off.

Honestly, premium coach options are what I'm willing to pay for. To me 1st is the convenience of getting off the plane first and if there is any hiccups you are actually taken care of.

I flew yesterday and today in a coach class. Both flights had us at the departure gate for an extra hour (this is the beat place to be in a delay, btw, bathrooms stay open). 1st was happily drinking sodas and waters while the rest of us were just glad the APU was powering the A/C.

1st class seats are also much more comfortable in my experience.

I bought a Keychron Q6Max with Gateron Brown switches just over a year ago and love it. I use it exclusively wired on Linux. Switch feel is of course personal, but the browns are satisfying to me.

    (Speaking about the US below)

This is an interesting problem. I've seen it more in the commercial spaces of mixed use developments than the residential. But, that probably has to do with where I live being seriously under stocked on housing

What I have learned over the years is that this is a by-product of absurd financing agreements. Lending rates for these new developments are tied to clauses that mandate a minimum rent price. If they rent for less, the rate goes up. It is literally cheaper to let these spaces sit empty than it is to fill them at current market rates.

In my opinion, financial products in general have become too fancy. Risk is no longer acceptable at the highest levels of our system, and therefore cost at the bottom has skyrocketed to cover the risk.

I just bought a Fairfax 2! I'm using it for commuting and errands, but my city is hilly so it is definitely getting out through some tests. Any thoughts on how it's held up for you?

We still don't know what the new series is. I'm glad they got some of the original producers, though. Hopeful it will scratch the right itches. I'm thinking: force vs patience, cultural exploration, the role and power of religion in subjugation, and some proper time to get to know the characters without teen romance tropes.

I'm a civil engineer and have been using CoPilot for Civil 3D and PowerShell scripting.

While I understand coding and have been a computer power user most of my life, I am not a programmer. Trying to understand PowerShell and LUA enough to implement anything other than the basics is outside of reasonable for the time I have. A manual approach has always been more efficient in the past.

I've seen others use it to frame a report or do some large data analysis, but I haven't had much luck with it that way. However, it has sped up my excel formula creation and helped me avoid going down rabbit holes where I'd learn only after hours of trial and error that I would need Visual Basic to implement what I wanted.

Alamo Drafthouse in DTLA is where we ended up going once ArcLight closed down. It's not perfect, but at least you don't (or didn't, moved away so haven't been in a while) get talkers and phone users.

I loved every season, but there were some definitely better than others. They each have their own style and feel so if one doesn't hit for you, consider another. The latest was fantastic.

I think it's pretty rare for an easement to be non-negotiated. It's far more likely that you just weren't a part of the deal. When the first utility came through they paid off the then owner and saddled future owners with the easement.

Some jurisdictions may stipulate easements in new developments, but in that case the developer is probably negotiating with the utility owner and getting something out of the deal prior to selling.

    Hey everyone!

Another 15 year Reddit refugee (and Digg, Slashdot, and IRC, though not Usenet), here. I lurk more often than I contribute these days, mostly due to lack of time. Hopefully, I will be a benefit to this community when I do.

I'm a civil engineer who focuses on airports. Basically, I know how to tell a contractor to move, compact, and mix ground materials of various types and amounts so that planes can operate safely.

That said, my interests go well beyond dirt. I can find enjoyment in most things that take skill or effort; both the final product and the process itself. Technology, art, philosophy, history, sport, etc.

I have become far more skeptical (or disillusioned) of modern economics and the role software is playing in our lives. I'm not remotely a Luddite or a hater of capitalism, but as I've gotten older and experienced more, I find that combining those two is leading to some seriously disappointing results.

On that sour note, I think I'm done for today!
