They weren’t drills but they were mandatory seminars and brought in local law enforcement and the company’s security task force and talked about the run/hide/fight methodology and “see something, say something” stuff. I distinctly remember sitting in those trainings and thinking about how surreal it was that we had to do this. I grew up doing the drills in school but didn’t realize how absurd it is until sitting at a corporate training essentially going over the same stuff.
My current employer does a similar training but it’s all self study but since I’m fully remote, it’s not that big of a deal. I’ve often thought about using this dynamic as a legitimate reason why I don’t want to go back into the office. Im far safer at home and by the company’s own policy, the chances of an active shooter are real, even though the odds are small. -

I replaced the position where Apollo used to be with a language learning app. So now when my muscle memory comes into play, I’ll open that up and run through a handful of exercises to progress my Italian.

Meditation provides the skills and mental determination to overcome everything going on around you (not just in running but life itself). Running is a form of meditation for me and oddly enough I only practice more traditional methods while on holiday. If you practice regularly I can completely see how this would be very helpful!

When I stopped to recenter, I could tell my body wasn’t terribly tired and I had plenty left to go on but couldn’t get over the mental aspect once I got going again.

I’ve often found that I can ignore most the physical fatigue if I’m distracted enough to not focus on it (music, podcasts, runners high etc) but there’s always a point where it breaks my concentration and that’s where the mental game comes into play. My long run is today so I’m definitely going to see if consciously knowing this helps power through.
I’m right with you there. I bought a new car a few years back and am determined that my next car will be electric. The biggest thing that bugs me (in the US at least) is the lack of smaller electric options that could reduce the cost considerably but it seems manufacturers aren’t looking to go small. Honda got rid of the Fit, Toyota increased the size of their Yaris and that’s just the ICE options. I’d love to have a small electric car that I can zip around with and charge overnight for a lower cost. The size may come at the cost of range but I feel like there’s a good compromise somewhere.
