My wife and I have been together for 20 years, married for 16. We got married because the American immigration system is an absolute nightmare. We had been together for 4 years, living together for 3.5 and the choice was either we get married or she has to return to her home country. She had been in the US for 8 years by then and had settled her life here. She had two degrees, a good job, a long term partner. It was ridiculous to think that she would be forced to leave. Ultimately it would have happened eventually since we're still together after two decades but I hate that politics forced our hand.

Growing up I never watched anime. It was pretty niche in the 80's and I think I was just put off by the anime kinds in school and never gave it a fair chance. My wife has always been into it but I never watched it with her. This year we went to Japan and it was just kind of everywhere. I talked to people in our group about stories in their favorite animes and they sounded really interesting. So I decided that I needed to give it a fair chance. My wife started me out with Spirited Away and now we're watching One Piece together. It's new for her too so it's fun to discover it together.

I'm reading "All Good People Here" by Ashley Flowers. I really enjoy her podcasts (Crime Junkie and Full Body Chills) but for some reason the book isn't really doing it for me. I'm not sure if it has to do with the transition from short form to long form but I'm really struggling to care about what's happening in the story.
