Comment on I Am Part of the Resistance Inside the Trump Administration in ~news
ThoughtMonster That's a good point. If the Dems do well in the midterms, I'll re-evaluate.A Democratic majority in one or both Chambers would be able to act as a check on a Pence Presidency. He wouldn't be able to enact whatever horrid shit he wanted. If the Democrats got a majority in the Senate as well as the House, Pence would be able to do very little indeed.

It's a hedge bet for the Party, in case Trump goes too far.

Historically yes, they've mostly spied on progressives of various stripes.

ThoughtMonster I'm also terrified of homelessness, and I think we'd be a lot better off if more people thought about it as 'something that could happen to me,' rather than 'something that happens to those people.'I'm also terrified of homelessness, and I think we'd be a lot better off if more people thought about it as 'something that could happen to me,' rather than 'something that happens to those people.'

I had this intense moment, watching Nanette, where I realized that I've literally never heard another butch dyke talk about being bashed, in a contemporary context. And being bashed, multiple times, was really formative to my experience. I hadn't even realized how alone I felt in that, until I heard her talk about it.

Comment on Daily Tildes discussion - why should we allow (or not allow) fluff content? in ~tildes.official

I quite like the idea of a site where that's simply not a thing that's present. I feel like sequestering it won't work. It ultimately takes over, more and more people who are into it join, until the critical mass is here for that, and then after you filter it out, you're not left with much. And then you go looking for another site. So I'm hoping that this site focuses on doing one thing well: thoughtful discussion - and leaves the fluff for other places.
I got them all right too, but I think I probably did better because I don't use facebook or any site that uses ads like that. I think most of us look more closely at unfamiliar things, so if I were accustomed to seeing those sorts of ads all the time, it's likely that I'd look less closely at them.
