I collect indie perfume. I prefer perfume oils to the standard eau de parfum type that is sprayed, and it seems like these little companies focus heavily on oil. They also tend to be much more interesting and unique, plus I like the opportunity to support small businesses and individuals rather than global conglomerates.

I have fragrances ranging from marshmallow roses to haunted libraries and all kinds of others in between. One current favorite starts out with a cold blast like freezer air, and then settles into vanilla ice cream, waffle cone, and flowers, while another is like a sunny field of dandelions - warmth, dirt, grass and all.

I do have misses occasionally (the hazards of buying perfume online) - a recent one was like getting kicked in the face by a sweaty donkey with manure on its hooves and flowers in its mane, and I don't think I'll ever be brave enough to try wearing it!

There was a vibrant community around this hobby on that other site, and I'll miss it. It's almost impossible to find written reviews that aren't located there, but I guess that just means I might end up with some unexpected gems!

It's warming up in my area lately, so when I don't want to cook, I like to make a sort of salad with the following, all cut into similar sized chunks:

    • Avocado
    • Tomato
    • Cucumber
    • Cold cooked potato
    • Fresh mozzarella
    • Other veggies (jicama or pickled beets are current favorites)

Mixed with olive oil, apple cider vinegar, and seasonings (usually salt, pepper, garlic, Tapatio or other hot sauce, and maybe something random just to spice it up)

I toss it together and let it meld in the fridge for a bit before eating.

Are you interested in writing text-based games? There are options out there for people who want to focus on writing rather than coding, like Twine or ChoiceScript (owned by Choice of Games). There are games on both those websites you can check out, and I would also suggest taking a look at the Interactive Fiction Archive. Good luck!

I tend to play a bunch of games at once. Right now, I'm playing:

Halls of Torment with my husband on the TV pc. It's an early access game in a genre so new it doesn't really have a name - the 'survivors bullet-hell' type recently made popular by Vampire Survivors. It's sort of a mix of Hades, old Diablo, roguelikes, and probably others I don't know. It's a little rough around the edges still, but it's only been out about a month and is pretty fun to play in a grindy way.

True Fear: Forsaken Souls 2 is one of those hidden object style adventure games, but this one has a horror theme, no hidden-object scenes, and feels a teensy bit less childish than the common ones. There's nothing new here gameplay-wise - find item, take it somewhere, unlock a thing and move to the next item/place, but I like it to just destress and unwind.

Dreams in the Witch House is a Lovecraftian point-and-click adventure game with some simulation and rpg elements. You play as Walter, a new student at Miskatonic U., and have 2 months to focus on your studies, investigate eldritch doings, do absolutely nothing, or discover and perhaps stop the cosmic horror before it's too late, amongst other options. Nice pixel graphics, interesting characters and story, and loads of references for readers, plus a lot of replayability with some random game aspects and multiple endings.

I've been having a lot of fun with Dave the Diver too - it's the perfect level of casual to me, and it's full of such great little surprises! It keeps adding new mechanics, and the music, graphics and animations are a delight. I'll avoid spoilers, and I'm not that far into the game yet, but I was pleasantly surprised by a dream and the full track of a very special song. I can't wait to see what happens next!

First for me is Obsidian, an old PC game from the 90's with puzzles, exploration and FMV cut-scenes. It's the story of a pair of scientists who are exploring a bizarre crystalline structure which appeared overnight in the woods. It's been ages since I played it, but I remember the puzzles being some of the best and most difficult I've ever encountered.

Second is Roundabout - a weird little game I played on the PS4, where you are Giorgio, a silent limo driver. Not only is she the greatest chauffeur of all time, piloting a limo that never stops spinning like a demented top, but she also solves the personal problems of her passengers, without ever having to say a word. You control the madly spinning limo to pick up and deliver passengers, collect hats for your car, and you get to watch charming live-action cutscenes with wacky characters, and somehow it works!

I just finished The Last Astronaut by David Wellington, and had a great time. I also prefer my sci-fi with a tinge of horror, and this fit that well.

After a disastrous mission to Mars, all space programs are shut down. Until decades later, when a huge object is discovered coursing towards Earth. Sally Jansen, the mission commander from that last mission, is tapped to pilot and lead a team to investigate. It's not a smooth trip, and things get even more horrific after they arrive.

It evoked horror-themed Rendezvous with Rama vibes, and was a fun read.

A favorite recommendation that fits - Nights at the Circus by Angela Carter. It's the story of an American journalist interviewing and investigating Fevvers, a brash Cockney burlesque performer who claims to have hatched from an egg and has the wings to (maybe) prove it. The language is lush and visceral and we go on a crazy journey from Victorian brothels to Siberian shaman-led psychedelic reindeer urine trips and many more bizarre situations in between.
