I agree with their evaluation of strong disagreement for the sayings of the founder of that company that run the software they use. But I'm not sure if we can do that evaluation during our daily lifes without being alienated. It's not possible or healthy to evaluate the views of the owner of every shop we visit, or every restaurant we want to eat in. We live in a crazy world with people with crazy ideas. Yes, we should advocate for change, but I'm not convinced that the way of doing it is though a scrutiny of ideals that the founder of the company that make the software you use.

Oh, and actually if that means you are moving to Teams (which is apparently what is happening in this case) I'm 🤔

I also like the model of paying for search to support Kagi/Orion.

After decades using Firefox as a solo browser, I moved to Orion a couple of weeks ago.

I love Firefox, and I try to use open source software as much as possible, but being the browser such a critical software in my work and personal workflow, I couldn't stand any more of receiving the amount of "tab crashed" messages over and over again. I tried uninstalling extensions and such, but I ended up trying Orion (which btw allow you to access both Firefox and Chrome extensions (!) also in mobile (!!)) and not going back to Firefox.

It's a pity, but the weird and uncontrolable tab crash bug was enough for me

I use the old school Carddav service that my email provider (Fastmail) provides me. It has been working for me for ages, sync in all my devices and allows me to use apps such as Cardhop flawlessly.

If I understand correctly your need, is not that different than any solution for a small company or group. So, for documentation Nextcloud + Onlyoffice / Collabora, etc?

Sure thing! I used both extensions as a way to compartimentarize (I don't know if this word exists in English) my browsing experience.

Multi-Account Containers allows you to use every tab as "a new session". That lets you log in with accounts (google accounts for instance) in every tab and not connecting your search history with your work or personal google accounts.

Conteinarise let you identify "personas" or "containers" for different uses. For instance, you can have a "Work" container just for work related stuff keep you logged in your work credentials in Google, Github, trello or whatever. Conteinarise let you customize it even more in simple terms like this:

    *.amazon.co.uk , amazon
    *.chess.com , chess

That implies than every time you open a chess.com domain or subdomain, it will open on a "chess" tab, etc.

It seems so! Did you try Nota? I can't believe it's not more popular.

    What a great question.

    • Obviously Firefox with some extensions as:
      • ublock origin
      • Conteinarise (I don't understand why this is not more widely used)
      • Multi-Account Containers (same^^)
    • Mailmate, probably ugly, but trustful and powerful email client
    • 1Password, I can't live without it
    • Alfred, a wonderful app launcher that also memorizes your clipboard and can replace Textexpander, among hundred of cool features
    • Fantastical, a must to me for managing several calendars and also replacing calendly
    • Nextcloud, I've never looked back to dropbox
    • Nota. This is an sort-of obscure and new app that it's just perfect for me for quick editing markdown text (I also use the magnificent iAWriter, but I've found myself using Nota more)

I've been struggling myself with the same question for my small company and I ended up* with a semi self-hosted alternative:

    • Element/Matrix (self-hosted) as private chat alternative
    • NextCloud (self-hosted) as dropbox alternative
    • Etherpad-lite (self-hosted) for quick notes
    • OnlyOffice (self-hosted) as office-gdocs alternative
    • Todoist (commercial)
    • whereby.com (commercial) as zoom alternative
    • fastmail (commercial) for email

I rented a server in Hezner and I'm paying Cloudron to manage all of this flawlessly. Not a techie myself. I hope that helps.

    • that doesn't mean I will not change this in the future.
