Yeah honestly I was pretty happy with it. I just wish it called back to some of your dialogue choices while you're going through the end sequence. But I understand what they were going for - your experience and interpretation of the story will heavily depend on the choices you made, and the game doesn't necessarily have to do a bunch of extra legwork for it to hit home.

Glad to hear I made a good choice! It's been on my "to play" list for a while and I figured I'd grab it while it's on sale. Will share my thoughts when I get around to it!

After a bit of a drought, I got back on a few games last week.

Finished off Firewatch, which I enjoyed quite a bit. Going into the game, I had been warned about the ending but I actually thought it was OK. My main gripe was that I was hoping all the choices we made throughout the game would have an impact on how the ending is presented, but otherwise I had a blast. Definitely worth the $2 I spent on it.

After that, I bought and finished Alba: A Wildlife Adventure. It's definitely a game intended for kids but honestly I wanted a bit more of a chill/lighthearted experience when I bought it, so I didn't mind. It's a super chill game where you have to scan animals across the island and try to clean it up. Very simple gameplay, lovely art style and music, and took about 3 hours to 100%. No regrets here either

In the meantime, I've been trying to finish up Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy - I've gotten through the first two games in the trilogy and just started the third. I've been enjoying the personality that the game exudes, even if sometimes I tend to just click through the (verbose) dialogue.

As my next games, I just bought Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion, Journey and Before Your Eyes. Looking forward to completing them when I have the time!

I generally dislike inventory management as a mechanic, especially in some games where figuring out what to keep and what to avoid ends up being half the game. Just let me hoard my stuff please

Downloaded Firewatch when it was on sale for $2 not too long ago, so that is next on my list!

While the game does throw a lot of gameplay mechanics and minigames at you, none of them are particularly deep. Even the slightly-less-shallow mechanics (like the fishing) ended up feeling like a chore for me towards the end of the game, because I'd just done it too many times before and there wasn't enough variety to keep me interested. The only one that didn't get old for me was the sushi restaurant but it just wasn't a large enough part of the game to ignore the grind outside of it.

The main pain point based on what I've seen and experienced myself is about halfway through the game. Without spoiling anything, that's when a bunch of new gameplay elements are added which add more grind for the player without adding anything particularly interesting or fun.

In terms of what could've been done to mitigate it, I think making the core gameplay loop a bit deeper and more interesting could've solved a lot of issues, or just shortening the game a bit. I'm no game developer though, so take what I say with a pinch of salt!

Keep in mind this is all my opinion though, and I still heartily recommend the game. I had a ton of fun with it and it was 100% worth the price - it just isn't perfect.

Started playing Dredge and Rollerdrome after finishing Dave the Diver.

Dredge has been great so far. The only thing I will say is that I accidentally started a temporary quest that won't renew on failure. Once I realized my mistake, I started a new game (thankfully, I was only about an hour deep in the previous playthrough). Otherwise, love the gameplay loop, the music is very atmospheric and fits well, and the nighttime is genuinely creepy.

Rollerdrome has been my "change of pace" game and it's also been really fun. Turns out a third person shooter combined with roller blading is actually a really cool idea.

Dave the Diver was great, although it did get a bit grindy at the end. I started rushing the main story quests to get the game over with. That doesn't take away from the other 80% of the game which was great though!

That's pretty much my exact use-case! I like to write down my thoughts before writing code because it helps organize things in my head. Plus, sketching is a great way for me to clear my head.

I like to write notes for work and sketch/draw in my spare time. I'm about to finish another paper notebook, and I noticed a few ads for the ReMarkable & decided to check it out. A few YouTube videos later, I'm now quite interested in getting an e-ink tablet to replace the notebooks I've been going through.

Thing is, with this type of technology I'm always a bit worried that I won't use it enough to justify the price. If anyone has one of those - have they managed to replace the classic paper/pen combo for you? Do you regret your purchase or are you happy with it?

If anyone is curious, I was specifically looking at the ReMarkable 2 and the Supernote Nomad. The ReMarkable seems to be the most popular choice, but I really like how the Supernote emphasizes repairability (notably, the battery is replaceable). I'm also very much open to other suggestions if you have any!

I've enjoyed reading all the books so far, the story moves along at a pretty steady pace and early on it was fun noticing the differences between the books and TV show.

I also just got Dredge and Rollerdome, both of which I'm looking forward to!

After seeing that 1.6 is coming soon (tm), I've been playing Stardew Valley again! It's already one of my all-time favorites, but now I'm actually trying to get through all of the late game and reach perfection before the update. I'm not usually one to go for that kind of stuff, but despite the grind, I'm still enjoying the game the same as I did before.

As someone who hasn't always been good about reading consistently, it can be tricky to know what to read next. There's so many books out there, it can be daunting to just pick one.

Recently, I've gone through Goodreads' yearly award winners (two of 2023's so far: The Maid and The Guest List), but they've been a bit underwhelming in my opinion. So, I thought I'd turn to Tildes!

Regardless of genre, what are the books you would absolutely recommend that people read?
