    I think this is a bigger issue than people realize. Being able to down vote comments and having them hidden somewhat alleviates this problem.

    I would agree that, to a certain extent, this site (for now talking more about the culture we have, not moderation) prioritizes civility and productive discussion to the point where it makes awful viewpoints look just as prominent and valid as anything else.

    I think this is a bigger issue than people realize. Being able to down vote comments and having them hidden somewhat alleviates this problem.
