Wow, thanks for the in-depth explanation! So it's more of a "the buck stops here" situation than something where he played a direct role. It's good to see some kind of accountability, I guess.

2010 Lexus IS350C I also have a 1969 Ford Mustang hardtop with a 351 V8 but the seats, glass, and wheels are not ... necessarily ... attached to the car at the moment.

Can someone ELI5 why the PM got ousted? What I understand about the scandal didn't implicate him directly. Am I just not quite grasping something about how the parliamentary system works?...

I'm a civil litigator in Texas, just curious if anyone else on here practices law! When the site opens up, I see value in creating something akin to the /r/lawyers subreddit where access is restricted to licensed attorneys, and I'd be happy to jump in on setting that up when it does.

I don't like it when it's accept able for one group of people to say something and be chastised for it when another group can't.

Ordinarily, I'd agree with you. But words don't just have the meanings ascribed to them in the dictionary. Language is a living, breathing thing, and the historical and cultural connotations that words carry are often more important than their dictionary meanings.

To ignore that is to ignore half of the argument -- Barr made comments that have clear and well-established historical connotations. In this particular context, the black people == monkeys insinuation ropes in themes of dehumanization that have been used to demean and subjugate the black community since the days of slavery. Calling Bush a monkey doesn't call up those same implications.

My wife does social dancing, which I've seen in a couple other comments. She wants me to get into it, but I enjoy soccer more -- and my body won't let me play soccer forever so I figure I should make the most of it!
