    Cherry Lips by Garbage comes to mind. The song was inspired by a couple of "autobiographical" novels about a teenage male-hustler turned writer. The novels later turned out to be works of pure fiction written by a woman writer.

    Shirley Manson wrote the lyrics based loosely around two novels she had just read, Sarah and The Heart Is Deceitful Above All Things, written by author Laura Albert under the pseudonym of JT LeRoy. "I took a bit of poetic license, but I wrote it for JT. It's easily the most uplifting thing we've ever done. It sounds nothing like us; it sounds like a Shangri-Las song", Manson explained. Like the rest of the world, Manson had believed that LeRoy had been a teenage truck-stop hustler who'd escaped the streets to become a writer. [...] In 2005, LeRoy was exposed as an invention of Laura Albert in articles published by Stephen Beachy, The New York Times and Vanity Fair. "I know a lot of people felt conned in the end," Manson explained. "I didn't. I just felt sad that a woman felt she would stand a better chance in the world if she was a man, that JT was 'dead' and wouldn't be part of my life anymore". Manson still felt that the books "remain a marvel and whoever wrote them is still a genius whether they are a man, woman or wilderbeast."

    You should look into Waterfox (a Firefox fork) if you haven't already. I haven't kept up with their news lately, but, as far as I know, the main developer is committed to keeping legacy addon support.

    For anyone who wants to try it, this is how you do it:

    1. Go to this location:
    C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<profile>

    1. Create chrome\userChrome.css if it doesn't exist already.
    2. Open userChrome.css and paste these lines:
    @namespace url("http://www.mozilla.org/keymaster/gatekeeper/there.is.only.xul");

    /* hide horizontal tabs */
    .tabbrowser-tab, .tabs-newtab-button {
    display: none !important;
    }

    1. Restart Firefox.

    I've been using Tree Style Tabs with this userChrome.css trick ever since Firefox Quantum launched. Never had any problems.

    Edit: I also encountered a site once that had a maximum password length requirement that was exceeded by the sentence generated by Readable Passphrase Generator.

    Sal5Vif>Fip0Box9Bor(
    Yugh|Nol2Thy4VuQuat?
    Lip8Phen]Vup*Rek)Thig8

    The length (and a couple of other things) are customizable.

    Edit: There's also the Readable Passphrase Generator, which will generate completely readable (albeit nonsensical) passphrases, like this:

    the statesman will burgle amidst lucid sunlamps

    These are better suited for memorizing, but that's a whole other discussion. :)

    Also, others have already said it: don't reuse passwords and let your password manager generate strong passwords. I just wanted to add, if you use KeePass you should install the Pronounceable Password Generator plugin or you are going to hate yourself in those (rare) instances where you need to type an automatically generated strong password.

    Good to know, thank you! I'd thought there was an automatic option in Settings and felt a bit silly for no managing to find it, haha.

    Reading your post, it felt a bit like a missed opportunity... until I got to your edit, which suggests that you can change your username. (Out of curiosity, how do you do that? I couldn't figure it out.)

    Still, even if it's possible to change one's username, I don't think I'll part with my old one. I might create other Tildes accounts when it will be possible to do so (and maybe all the cool names will have been taken by that point), but I want this username to be part of my "main" identity here.
