While this approach works on paper, the issue is that the people who wield real power (read: the economic elite) aren't able to be voted out of their position of influence. The real source of power (be it political or in another form) doesn't come from the politicians in "control" of our government, but rather the few businesses and individuals who can afford to lobby those politicians into complacence.

I agree with you about not wanting to make claims (in this case, call a certain demographic beneficial to the advancement of society) that you don’t personally believe, but if you are willing to start a conversation involving people with different perspectives, you should imply in your comments that you are open to those differing perspectives instead of shutting them down right from the get-go.
Saying that a certain political ideology is regressive to society degrades that ideology instead of fostering an environment for a meaningful discussion on conservatism in relation to progressivism, liberalism in contemporary society, etc.

From a practical perspective, Earth is the only place that is guaranteed to support us right now and we have yet to actually develop and prove the viability of technologies that could make extraterrestrial living possible.
Even if / when we do develop those technologies, Earth is where all our history and culture are. It would be terrible to lose everything that we’ve managed to build on this planet and be reduced to desperately fleeing to other places for survival.

But I wonder why things tend to become toxic as more people come into contact with each other... Why is it that vastly different demographics interacting with each other on one site cause as much tension as they do? Hypothetically, how could a site encourage / maintain a certain level of civility while still accepting disagreement and conflicts of worldview?

It’s shocking to me that such flagrant corruption and economic abuse go virtually unpunished and think that this is why we need people like Bernie Sanders more than ever, even if only to raise awareness on these issues and attempt to mobilize people against the exploitative establishment...

If this strike actually gains momentum, to the point where the entire European delivery system grinds to a halt (during one of Amazon's biggest promotional events of the year), I think that they will be able to secure better conditions. Amazon's workers are ultimately the ones that make the company function, no matter how rich Bezos becomes, so I am confident that they have the ability to use their power to ensure that they get their well deserved share in Amazon's success.
