Tildes feels so cozy
I feel like there's so much going on back at the mothership.
The whole vibe and color scheme of this place is just so relaxed, and everyone so far seems so polite and actually interested in genuine discussion. Like if there was a ~writing or something like that, I could settle down in a sweater with some of my username and just flip through this place for hours.
thanks for keeping the place awesome!
Welladoo, welladoo!
Earlgreytea, they say,
enjoyed written thingies,
like most Tildoes.
Arrived here from Reddit,
expositionally
seeking coziness, not
ill-bred dildos.
tl;dr: Hi. Be the change you want to see in Tildes. Or something.
(That's a double dactyl, an obscure mid-20c poetry form.)
There was an old man not named Phil,
who found it quite hard to rhyme Til-
does in a poem with only three feet.
This challenge he, striving to meet,
did a post with doggerel fill.
Haiku like bashō:
Although you can't rhyme tildo,
That flow is ill tho.
If we trade haikus
like slow-moving thunderstorms
we'll be here all week.
I feel like tildes has done a good job of passively encouraging people to be polite and more willing to post and reply to other comments. These two things lend themselves to a very positive and more interesting / engaging experience!
Anyways, I'm happy to hear that you're enjoying everything so far.
So far. Things are still quite new. I'm sure Reddit used to be just as good.
"Mothership"? I think that suggests a wrong attitude about Tildes. While it may have had some inspiration from things Reddit gets wrong, it takes inspiration from other sources, too. And some of us did not come there from that site.
I interpreted that as a reference to Reddit's alien mascot, not any implied maternal relationship between there and here.
I would love a section for sharing bits of creative writing. Perhaps I'll drop by ~creative tomorrow and unleash my super-duper amazing artistic... mediocrity.
Yes! Please do~ only maybe you're averagely incredible?? Sharing writing is always amazing. :)
Yeah, I'm really liking it here! The UI is clean, simple, and very effective; the posts are interesting; and the people are polite.
I'm not sure how long the closed invites system will be in place, or if the topic areas/sections (? I don't know what the correct term is!) will remain tight controlled (so regular users can't just create new ones). But honestly, I don't have a problem with either thing. I feel like the tighter control encourages civility and maturity.
What sort of writing do you like? I'm into fiction and poetry myself.
Think people would be up for a game of Drabble Telephone in ~creative? ;)
It's where one person submits a drabble and then a prompt word. Then another person submits a drabble containing the prompt word and leaves a different prompt word. And so on...
I like the UI a lot but it could use a bit of color.
Have you tried the Solarized themes that are available in your settings? People have also been making custom themes for Tildes.
Solarize is also a bit monochromatic. I think some touches of colors from the logo would be nice, it's also a question of the identity for the site.
