What anime are you looking forward to for the summer season?
Let me be totally honest: this is kind of a weird thread for me to make, considering I haven't kept up with new seasonal anime (or even continuing sequels!) in a looooooooooong time. However, my absolute favorite anime is getting a remake, and because I actually live in Japan with an active-at-night schedule, I might even be able to watch the TV broadcast.
Basically, despite all the controversy and Problematic Elements with the author, I'm absolutely excited for the new Rurouni Kenshin anime. In fact, I'm kinda glad that anime discussion no longer exists on Reddit, because I could see discussion about it being turned into a Comment Graveyard/ Locked Thread.
But this is just one anime (that will have stances both for and against it). What about YOU- what are you excited for in summer for anime?
Only talking new shows, I'm actually looking forwards to the Go Hands shows, Suki na Ko ga Megane wo Wasureta and Dekiru Neko wa Kyou mo Yuuutsu, I don't hate the visual style of the studio that much and they both seems like pretty cute shows.
Genjitsu no Yohane: SUNSHINE in the MIRROR because well, Yohane-sama!
And Zom 100 because I really liked the PV i saw.
i still have no idea whether it's related to the main LL Sunshine or not tbh, has there been any info? why did i start another new show when I should be watching that in preparation instead....
the PV did not inspire confidence lol. but I'll probably pick up the manga!
I doubt it'll have any relation to the Sunshine story, at most it'd be cool to watch Sunshine before to know the character dynamics. Also because Sunshine is best Love Live.
ahhhhh 2 weeks to watch 2 seasons and a movie haha. and i got 2 more shows i'm watching concurrently..... I'll try my best. (has procrastinated this ever since yohane was announced)
Having read some of the manga, I'm not too optimistic, honestly...
Source readers smh
I mean, I can't find a spoiler tag syntax for this new site. Apologies for that.
But I figured this would also be a fair warning.
It's fine, I was just joking, I don't really let this kind of stuff stop me from watching shows, we all have different taste and I am personally easily entertained.
I'm also easily entertained, but somehow this one lost me...
Tres if you click the view markdown bit it's
Symphogear Spoilers
Chris is best girlAh, thanks! It's very HTML, but I think the gist of it makes sense.
I remember liking the manga but I do admit I would have read it quite some time ago.
I'm more interested in the art style than the plot, so I'm still gonna check it out for a few episodes.
Being honest, I feel like other than the sequels to beloved franchises, there is not much good this coming season.
That said, some friends and I have been getting together every Sunday to watch through some of the stuff that is airing and will probably continue with that in the Summer. To that end, the crappy isekai is great to riff on even if it is not that good.
Shows that I am actually looking forward to:
Shows that might be fun to riff on:
May seem like a lot, but I'm the type to try anything that seems to be remotely interesting. Then, after a few episodes, I will decide on whether or not to continue watching. Case in point, I had 30+ shows on my list this season. Even including the seven crappy isekai I've listed, there are only 23 shows on my initial docket.
Although I asked this topic, there is still a little voice in the back of my head that points this out:
Traditionally, summer (and sometimes winter too) is the weakest season for anime. Most people want to be out enjoying summer vacation somehow, so usually low-quality shows air in this season... Before Fall comes back with a vengeance.
I'm conflicted about kenshin. the manga is a masterpiece, and the author is an unrepentant pedophile. it's rough. I'll likely torrent the anime...
I'm pretty excited about:
I have hopes for some others (ryza's thighs, for example), but those are the two I'm most excited about
It's a shame that most of the shows people seem to be excited about are sequels...
Are they remaking Rurouni Kenshin?
Watashi no Shiawase na Kekkon: Kinema Citrus! And the female lead seems interesting. My fluff pick for the season
Yohane: see reply to Gap above. LL Sunshine is the only LL I havent watched so far...
Synduality: the seiyuu cast is stacked, and yamamoto directing should mean a good time. Probably the show im coming in with the highest expectations tbh (apart from LL: im looking to be surprised there)
will continue watching:
wanted to say the Eupho OVA, but i dont think the BD's releasing in summer, so...
Let me leave in my delusions that we will get that Eupho OVA soon after.
... it's gonna be a half year wait at least like usual isnt it.
Kyoani please I beg you...
I'm looking forward to The Gene of AI and Rurouni Kenshin, although I haven't watched the original. Should i watch it first? What's the controversy with the author?
As far as i've heard you do not need to watch the older Rurouni Kenshin to watch the new one as it is gonna eb aremake.
Yeah, it looks like a readaptation that won't necessitate the original. The original anime got around 3/4 of the way through the manga (if you include Trust and Betrayal OVA) and then had a lot of filler at the end and never fully adapted the manga. Shame as the ending of Rurouni Kenshin was pretty good from what I remember from reading where the anime ended.
Honestly? I haven't really thought too much about next season. Keeping track of seasonals can be tough, and I'd rather watch shows with established reputations than spend time on a gamble of a show.
What established and reputable shows do you plan on watching in the near future?
I'm working my way through Chihayafuru right now. After that, I should probably continue Paniponi Dash, since its style of humor fits me pretty well.
I just want more Kino Saga QQ
I'm excited for Rurouni Kenshin since I think the original is fantastic aside from the filler. Rurouni Kenshin as a story is really good and luckily I think it stands alone and separate from the author that I am comfortable watching it. Luckily his pedophilia doesn't really feel like it seeps into the story aside from maybe some small things that I would attribute more to the time the story is set rather than him expressing his pedophilia.
oof.
The only show I'm really all that interested in is Zom100, as the art style in the PV looked pretty interesting and the premise seems like it could be a lot of fun. Though I'll almost certainly watch My Happy Marriage, too, since I'm a total sucker for fantasy romance.
I'm also veeeeeeery curious about the Precure All-Star movie, it is the 20th anniversary after all. But I've been underwhelmed by SkyCure so far, so I'm keeping my expectations in check just in case.
