    I had been watching Cheeky Angel back in the Spring but had to put it down when things got busy; betting back into it now and events are ramping up! Can't say what, exactly, as it'd be spoilers, but I'm really glad this series isn't just doing a status quo episodic teen shenanigans for 40 episodes, they're actually pushing the story forward in most episodes while also continuing the light social commentary. It's great.

    They are! It's hard to keep track of them all! Case in point... Thibault Tresca is the "Pop Team Mignon" guy. Thomas Romain is the guy who created Basquash.

    Also, French animators are everywhere in anime;

    I really enjoy how the format they're going with. I guess some people will be pretty surprised by the combination of a timeskip and pivoting to a pseudo-episodic detective story form, but it looks to me like that was always the intent here. The serial detective format is the story - episode 1 was just a prologue. I find a lot of detective stories can weigh themselves down with too much flashback and history of the detective characters stuck in the middle of cases, so I'm all for spending a whole episode getting the backstory out of the way so that the rest of the show can mainly focus on the cases.

    As for this particular case, seems like there's a lot of detail left to cover in the next episode, but so far...

    Raoul is the only one who seems to have a solid motive (he was obviously dissatisfied with how his father is being peaceful with the humans, and the murder is driving a rift between his father and the community), so I'm expecting him to be the culprit, but there's definitely a lot more ground to cover. -

    Sounds like a good idea! Probably best to put a sentence warning about spoilers in the top of the thread, since we're encouraging people to come in after each new episode.

    That's a lot of guilt to work off by watching several hundreds of episodes of guilty pleasure!

    Food Wars fits this bill for me. It has some episodes with genuinely great writing, but I'm not referring to those. I mean the ultra-cheesy episodes where everything goes completely over-the-top....

    I'm more interested in the art style than the plot, so I'm still gonna check it out for a few episodes.

    I'm also veeeeeeery curious about the Precure All-Star movie, it is the 20th anniversary after all. But I've been underwhelmed by SkyCure so far, so I'm keeping my expectations in check just in case.

    Interesting how this coincides with Funimation's announcement of their deal with Bilibili. The CR catalogue stays as limited as ever since the split with Funi, while Funi's catalogue is about to balloon with donghua, and yet it's the CR price that goes up. If High Guardian Spice is a flop and tanks CR's plans to produce+fund more original content, what does CR have left to compete on and make money from?

    A bit out of left-field, but Symphogear might be right up your alley. It's the same general sort of big-action set pieces and characters not taking themselves too seriously as Magi, and has something not too unlike the djinn equip, as well, but in a rather different setting and aesthetic than Magi.

    Alternatively, if you enjoyed the pan-cultural historical madlibs thing going on with Magi's setting, Arslan Senki would be worth a look. Less magic in its action scenes and less of an adventure tone to it, but the same sort of "group cast made up of several larger than life personalities" (and non-sexualized, and no gushy friendships!).

    I'm slowly binge'ing my way through the original Space Pirate Captain Harlock, which I have never watched before despite being an enormous Galaxy Express 999 fan. It's quite interesting, some episodes are part of an enormous cross-galaxy surprise conflict while others are very grounded, emotional tales with scarcely any action at all. I don't feel like I really have a good grasp of what Captain Harlock is trying to be just yet.

    Hmm. What did you like and what did you dislike about Magi? I can try to formulate some suggestions that you'll like based on that.
