What have you been watching and reading this week? You don't need to give us a whole essay if you don't want to, but please write something! Feel free to talk about something you saw that was cool, something that was bad, ask for recommendations, or anything else you can think of.

I'm Isekai trash, and watching the following currently-airing anime [with opinion]:

    • That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime [just awesome all around, wholesome to a fault]
    • The Rising of the Shield Hero [fun and pulpy, featuring Holo v2]
    • Dororo [sure to be critically-acclaimed]
    • The Promised Neverland [gripping]
    • SAO: Alicization [don't judge me]

Also finally getting around to watching Jojo's Bizarre Adventure since it's on Netflix now.

Recently read junji ito's Uzumaki. What a really wild ride. It's amazing how he managed to make the concept of spirals terrifying.

Currently watching Zombieland Saga. Only a few episodes in so far; fun start.

Reading Hiyokoi as well as Phi Brain: Kami no Puzzle. Hiyokoi is a cute high school romance though development is a bit slow for my taste. I’ve just started Phi Brain and while premise is interesting I’ve not read enough to give much opinion on quality.

I've been watching Saiki K. Love it so far but before that I just finished the MAGI series. Does anyone have some suggestions of stuff to watch? I was thinking about Goblin Slayer or Black Clover.

If you liked Magi you might try Hunter x Hunter.

Hmm. What did you like and what did you dislike about Magi? I can try to formulate some suggestions that you'll like based on that.

I really like how they had the ability to "djinn equip" as well as the magic battles as well. I also enjoyed how it could go from very dark to goofy but not overkill it. A big turnoff for me regarding anime is oversexualizing the characters which the extent of that was just with Aladdin. Something I didnt enjoy was how gushy it would get about being friends and what not. I understand some people enjoying that but it's not my thing.

A bit out of left-field, but Symphogear might be right up your alley. It's the same general sort of big-action set pieces and characters not taking themselves too seriously as Magi, and has something not too unlike the djinn equip, as well, but in a rather different setting and aesthetic than Magi.

Alternatively, if you enjoyed the pan-cultural historical madlibs thing going on with Magi's setting, Arslan Senki would be worth a look. Less magic in its action scenes and less of an adventure tone to it, but the same sort of "group cast made up of several larger than life personalities" (and non-sexualized, and no gushy friendships!).

I'm slowly binge'ing my way through the original Space Pirate Captain Harlock, which I have never watched before despite being an enormous Galaxy Express 999 fan. It's quite interesting, some episodes are part of an enormous cross-galaxy surprise conflict while others are very grounded, emotional tales with scarcely any action at all. I don't feel like I really have a good grasp of what Captain Harlock is trying to be just yet.

I've started watching Kaguya-sama: Love is War a few weeks ago but forgot to comment it, so here we go. It's a nice series and a unique take (afaik?) on the Romance theme so I'm really enjoying it. Definitely looking forward to watching the second last episode tomorrow (and the last one next week, sadly!).

I watched Oshiete-Galko-chan! recently, now I'm watching Wataten. I'm kinda eyeing Kaguya-sama: Love Is War, some friend says it's good. EDIT: I'm also watching Puella Magi Madoka Magica!
