I do program outside of work however most of mine has been small scripts to solve specific problems or add to my Conky setup. Recently I've started working on a larger project with the goal of generating some additional income though I do find it difficult to stay motivated after a full day of coding at work.

From an employer's perspective I can understand them wanting to see what I've accomplished, however I don't think it necessarily needs to be open source to do that. The projects I work on for my current employer are owned by them; I wouldn't be able to show much of that work in my portfolio. Rather than requiring open source I would think that simply being able to show the source along with any collaboration should be enough.

Dice Settlers is one I've had my eye on but not yet had a chance to try out.

Unfortunately "take that" games don't sit well with my group so Unstable Unicorns isn't for us. Same goes for pretty much any direct PvP interactions. Oh well.

    HSReplay looks pretty sweet!

Right now I'm developing a simple website to help tabletop game groups organize their events. I've had a couple groups using essentially an alpha version of the site for years so figured it was time to make a public version.

Not currently any handyman type work planned for this weekend though I imagine I'll at least be tidying up whatever remains after the yard sale. Long term plan is to finish the basement into a couple more bedrooms, den, workshop (I dabble in woodworking) and large pantry (wife delivers meals on the side to raise money).

And then the usual racquetball and working on side projects around the house.

I'm the IT Coordinator and Technical Trainer for a local manufacturing plant.

I was a temporary employee at my previous job and had my contract ended through a routine wave of seasonal layoffs. A member of our church was a manager at my current job and recommended me for an interview. The job offer was for an entry level material handler so was pretty easy to get the job though it didn't match the type of work I was really wanting (IT).

Over my first few years of employment I was able to promote quickly through improving their tracking spreadsheets and replacing paid software with my own web applications. Eventually a position opened as Technical Trainer which I was told is only about 25% training and 75% other work depending on employee's individual skills. The company did not currently have an IT department so I was offered the trainer position to fill that role.

I've been here for 12 years now and am currently seeking to create an actual IT team (at least 1 more person) as corporate requests more and more IT projects and my applications grow to being used by our sister companies as well. My real goal though is to monetize my side projects to the point that I can be self employed so I can spend more time with my family and allow for more travel.

Currently watching Zombieland Saga. Only a few episodes in so far; fun start.

Reading Hiyokoi as well as Phi Brain: Kami no Puzzle. Hiyokoi is a cute high school romance though development is a bit slow for my taste. I’ve just started Phi Brain and while premise is interesting I’ve not read enough to give much opinion on quality.

Currently working on a website to help gaming groups organize their events and provide an easy means of voting on what to play.

I’ve had the site in alpha for a couple game groups I know personally for years now and finally decided to rebuild the site for public use.

This is my first public site (I usually build company web apps for local network use only) so upping my privacy / security game has been my major focus.

This will also be my first attempt at monetizing a site through direct sales / subscriptions so that’s gonna be interesting as well once I get to that point in development.

I’m also in my 30’s but started in my late teens with the likes of Dragon Ball Z, FLCL, Hikaru no Go, Bleach and Naruto. Somewhere in there I discovered the Shonen Jump magazine which introduced me to some of these.

Nowadays I like to use MAL’s advanced search to check the previous season’s best for my preferred genres and usually just watch one episode a day with my breakfast. I stick to completed seasons just in case I end up with idle time to binge a bit.

I primarily write simple web applications for my company such as their training website, laboratory data entry, operator field readings, etc.

For the back end we run Ubuntu Server with some bash scripts running background tasks and PHP / MySQL for server side data. I do not use any frameworks for these.

On the front end it's the standard HTML / CSS / JavaScript though I prefer to avoid JavaScript where possible (aka most of the time). I do like to use the jQuery framework for these.

For my purposes it runs fine. Granted I only use it for picture backups from my family's cell phones so even poor performance is fine as long as pictures do indeed get sent to the Pi. I have a script that copies the Nextcloud data over to my primary Ubuntu machine so my weekly backup includes them as well (for offsite/offline backup). I do have the WebUI available and it is slow, however I only use it for configuring user accounts so I don't mind.

    • Mini desktop running Ubuntu for media / emulation on TV
    • Primary desktop hosts Minecraft / Dwarf Fortress for mobile gaming

I have a couple more Pi's laying around atm which I plan to use for home automation.
