Hi ~anime, what do you think about having more discussion threads?

It seems this is something many of us want, but unsure how to start.

I thought the way @TesterJ set up the Community Watchthough is very nice so maybe we could do it that way for current airing shows as well: one thread for each show and every time a new episode drop, someone can pop in to make a new top-level comment (@TesterJ explained in more details here).

Maybe at the beginning of each season, we can have an ask thread of which shows we'd like to make dedicated threads for (to gauge interest and also avoid bloating up the group feeds with shows that no one watches haha). If this works we could do similar threads for manga series too.

What do you guys think?

Edit: According to the Recommend summer anime thread, several people are watching:

Imma start with these 3 5 next week when the new episodes drop. Do mention if you have any more suggestions!

Yes! I would love that. I think it only makes sense too, with tildes being a discussion based platform. I'd nominate Undead Girl Murder Farce for a weekly discussion thread. Generally this thread...

I'd nominate Undead Girl Murder Farce for a weekly discussion thread. Generally this thread should give a good impression on what is being watched here this season.

Do you think I should just go ahead and make the discussion threads for a few of them (including yours too) or wait for more people to chime in first? Right now I'm thinking of starting with shows that were mentioned by at least 2 people (so the recommenders know they'll have someone to talk to :)

Sounds like a good idea! Probably best to put a sentence warning about spoilers in the top of the thread, since we're encouraging people to come in after each new episode.

Good call, I'll put in the body text spoiler warning and also direct link to each episode comment so latecomers don't accidentally see spoiler when scrolling to find the right ones.

I also think this is a great idea. As for recommendations, I can't be the only one watching jujutsu kaisen here.

I did read some stuff about the scheduling being god awful. It's airing weekly until the 3rd of August and then goes on break until the 31st and then back to weekly until the end of the year.

Part of the reason the scheduling is so odd is because the two arcs being covered don't split 50/50 with regards to how much content they have, so the first is only 7 (I think) episodes rather than the more usual 10-12. We're also getting two recap episodes because the first arc is pure flashback. If you were to watch JJK in the chronological order of events you'd go: S2 part 1, JJK0 (the movie), S1 part 1, S1 part 2, S2 part 2. Anyone who hasn't rewatched S1 or JJK0 since their release could end up very lost with one particular character so although I am a little disappointed at a double recap, I can see how it's for the greater good overall!

Another reason, pure speculation on my part, is that because the majority of the arc being covered in part 2 takes place on one day they're going to try to line up big moments in the series with an episode either side of this date (the date is on a Tuesday so if the episodes continue to release on Thursdays or Fridays then they could have a happy calendar sandwich). They have plenty of impactful moments to choose from, but it would be very satisfying to get that nod!

That would be great! Well, I'm not watching any of the three you mentioned, but if others are added later, I'll be able to participate. Or even if not, surely in Fall 2023 or any other future season, there will eventually be anime that I'm watching that will also have discussion threads. So either way, I'd be more than happy if this takes off.

I'll write below the shows that I'm watching this season. Or at the very least the ones I'm checking out. Shows that aren't sequels nor adaptations of manga I've read could get dropped if I'm not enjoying them. So this is just what I intend on starting.

    • Suki na Ko ga Megane wo Wasureta / The Girl I Like Forgot Her Glasses

    • Helck

    • BanG Dream! It's My Go!

    • Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2

    • Link Click Season 2

    • AI no Idenshi / The Gene of AI

    • Pokemon Horizons (continuing from spring)

    • Shinigami Bocchan to Kuro Maid Season 2 / The Duke of Death and His Maid Season 2

@asterisk also recommended AI no Idenshi over in this thread. I've added both that one and Jujutsu to the list!
