What have you been watching / reading this week? (Anime/Manga)
What have you been watching and reading this week? You don't need to give us a whole essay if you don't want to, but please write something! Feel free to talk about something you saw that was cool, something that was bad, ask for recommendations, or anything else you can think of.
If you want to, feel free to find the thing you're talking about and link to its pages on Anilist, MAL, or any other database you use!
I have been [re]watching Shinreigari/Ghost Hound.
I remember seeing this show as it came out and people talked about it, and it looked awesome to me, both detail and aesthetic. I thought this was what new anime were going to look like. Then they proceeded to look arse for that entire decade.
There is a lot of implied supernatural stuff going on in this anime. It's weird how no "psychological" anime I've seen is as grounded as I'd expect. Seemingly they all go with the notion of there needing to be stuff inexplicable by the unitary view on brain/consciousness, and take that to mean they should have ghosts and the like.
Still, great series so far. I watched all the way back, but it will need to justify itself to current me.
I've really been enjoying FLCL. The first season was surreal, manic, and beautiful (and quite funny). I've started the second season which was produced quite a bit after and it's not quite as beautiful, but the characters are great. Hoping it holds up.
A friend recommended Kill La Kill and it's... something else. Fanservice, the Anime. It's fun to watch but... yeah.
If you liked Kill La Kill then please try Gurren Lagann from the same studio.
That was also recommended so I'll be watching that as well.
Just started watching Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End. I really like the unique conceit of “okay we did the big quest to save the realm, now what?”. I like the slower pace and the reflection on relationships and time. The art is also stunningly beautiful at times.
Read the latest issue of Tomodachi Game. They just gave us the big reveal and it was a but underwhelming. But it's exciting because we're in the final few issues. Should be getting the rest of the answers and resolutions this year.
Caught up with the My Hero Academia manga to the latest season. Don't like to read ahead. So I started MHA Vigilantes. It's pretty good so far. I'm not in love with it, but I can see why others are. I'm close to half way through it. It's a fun read so far
I've buying volumes of Witch Hat Atelier for a couples years now but not reading it because I love it so much. But now that it's getting an anime I've finally read past Volume 5.
On 8 out of 13 and I just can't put it down.
Only nitpick I have is that there doesn't seem to be many female characters in power but other than that I do like the representation in disabilities and skin tones.
