What have you been watching/reading this week?

I'm gonna move this to Fridays from now on, it's easier for me to remember to post.

Anyway, what have you been watching/reading this week?

Feel free to talk about something you saw that was cool, something that was bad, ask for recommendations, or anything else you can think of.

If you want to, feel free to find the thing you're talking about and link to its Anilist, MAL, or any other anime/manga database you use!

Personally I watched a bunch this week to finish up the Anilist August Watch Challenge.

Starting off the week was Escaflowne. Which for the most part I really enjoyed, I feel like it did a really good job keeping me intrigued throughout while the plot was decent. While I feel like it had some issues near the end, overall I enjoyed it a bunch. Though I did hate the ending, it was just so unsatisfying personally.

Then I went ahead and watched Granblue Fantasy. This was a shock for me in how much I enjoyed watching it. It was just a really fun enjoyable fantasy show that kept each episode interesting. Alongside potential future romance building between the characters. Definitely a show to watch if you just want to have fun and enjoy watching something.

Finishing off my week was Serial Experiments Lain. Man, oh man, I don't know where to start with this show. I enjoyed it, even though I don't really understand most of what I watched. I feel like plots got dropped and disappeared, but then again I don't consider any of them negatives since I think it fits into the larger story really well. Definitely is a show that I need to go back and rewatch someday in the future, that or watch/read and analysis of it.

This week I've been watching Lastman on vrv (it's an "exclusive"). It's a French animated series. The animation is sweet as hell and the story is really great. I'm glad I took a chance on watching it.

Just started watching the Kimi ga Nozomu Eien "Next Season" OVA. I had no idea it existed until this year when I rewatched Kimi ga Nozomu Eien, after playing the Muv-Luv visual novels. Big fan of all of the above, really hoping to see more of the Age/Ixtl visual novels localized in the west.

I've been watching a lot of Ghibli stuff lately, and the most recent one I got around to was Spirited Away, which I had seen numerous times in my childhood but not any time recently. I found that it holds up, and while it's not one of my favorite movies ever, I still like it a lot. It's also got a lot of scenes burned into my brain, like the scene where she's interacting with the dust sprites, and where her parents turn into pigs for the big ones that always come to my mind first.

I also finished off The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya and got to watch The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya which is very likely now one of my favorite movies ever.

Haruhi is amazing! I was also a big fan of Disappearence of Haruhi Suzumiya. Did you watch it in English or Japanese dub? As much as I liked the cast of the Japanese dub, Crispin Freeman did such a good job as Kyon that I always now favor the English dub.

Japanese dub, because I LOVE Sugita as Kyon's (and to a slightly lesser degree, Haruhi's) VA so much. I've never tried the English dub but I'll give it a fair go sometime for sure.

I'm watching Yu Yu Hakusho at the moment, I heard it was from the same people who made Hunter x Hunter so I figured I had to watch it eventually, so far it's alright, not amazing but it's a longer anime, so I'll probably like it more and more as it goes on. I have to say there are a lot of similarities with HxH, you can really tell it's from the same maker.
