This week in Anime: week 42 of 2018

It's Friday once more, and may I say, you look stunning today?

How do?

Since we're currently lacking native spoiler tags, I'd ask all of you to follow this scheme:
Post a top level comment with the title and episode number of the anime you want to talk about like this
**JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Vento Aureo - Episode 1**
Then reply to those top level comments with your thoughts. This way people who haven't seen something yet or plan on binge watching once all the episodes are out can simply collapase the top level comment to not get spoiled ^.^

What do?

Simply post, discuss or joke about any currently airing anime you want. For Anime you've been watching that aren't currently airing refer to Cleb's weekly thread

When do?

But what if the anime I want to talk about hasn't aired yet?

No problem, just post a comment here once the episode has aired, these threads aren't meant to last one single day.

Going forward, I'll maintain archives of these threads at the unofficial wiki

I don't know if the CGI bits being so jarring was on purpose or not, it'd be interesting if it were, but it really killed the momentum last week's rap battle had built up.

Next week's episode will make-or-break the series for me. I've never gotten into idol shows; this episode played that aspect pretty straight. The humor was enough to keep me entertained, but probably not for the long term. If they keep a music-genre-of-the-week thing going, however, I'll be back on board.

Agreed - still enjoyed the episode, but the framerate of that 3D part kinda killed it, and it doesn’t help that I’m already not a huge fan of idol stuff. Still, excited as always for next week’s...

That was a nice braindump episode talking a bit about the world's backstory, goblins' possible origins, other friendly species, and introducing a bunch of characters. I had assumed they would go through the usual recruiting process of a single member at a time, so it was neat they skipped all that and dumped everyone into the party at once. Also it's probably safe to say they'll find excuses to jam random fanservice into every episode from here on out.

I have so many thoughts about this anime:

      • I'd feel as though I should be annoyed about how much time Rikka spends just meandering around, but for some reason I'm not
      • The appearances of the rest of the Syber Squad is done so... unceremoniously, it's almost jarring to see how ready the rest of the characters are to just accept them, and the small skit where they start acting like they're in a café only seems to highlight that
      • It also kind of cements this idea I kind of figured from the OP and the second episode, that Trigger is committing fully to just following the logic that informed commercial animation in the 90s: the characters and the transformation seem to be completely scripted with the intent of selling them as toys later. It's actually kind of fascinating to see.
      • Trigger what are you trying to say with that ending, you can't gay-bait in 2018 ok? It's not allowed.

Have to laugh at the fact that that leveling up for female goblins also apparently makes them hot.

We're 3 episodes into Alicization and Kirito STILL doesn't have a harem nor is he immensely overpowered. And I mean this mostly as a joke. In fact, outside of the first episode, Kirito has spent almost all of his time simply learning about his new environment with Eugeo. For SAO fans, this would seem boring simply because we're not used to such a slow pace from an SAO show but it's breath of fresh air. The improvement from the authors writing and the translation to the anime is noticeable. I haven't read the LNs that cover this particular arc but I'm genuinely excited that it's taking time to actually develop the world instead of just assuming the viewers are already familiar with it like the Aincrad arc. It'll be interesting to see if the show can hold up over it's 50+ episode expected run
