"Did they even watch Hiso-Maso? The show clearly showed him failing at the cat-calling/pick up artist tricks, and him learning and growing as a person, from ignoring the advances of the shaman girls to literally saying that he doesn't just want to sleep with her but wants to "treat her right."
The letter about train groping is gross and disgusting on a societal scale, but its just a letter. The only description people can give the author is "a friend of Abe." That's so mute and fails to display the governmental and societal culture as a whole.
As far as the suit designer, he is shown to be an utter creep and the girls disgust and awkwardness is literally all that is needed to convey to the audience that what he's doing is not ok. Do you want people to put a giant PSA on screen saying in brass tacks "What he is doing is wrong. Do not do this at home."
Finally, the show DID share a message about how requiring the young girls to perform the dragon ritual was wrong by having the main character stop it, and then have her shown to have done the right decision by staying alive at the end.
PedaRoma is just looking for potentially controversial claims to make in great anime to get more clicks, and misrepresenting the shows in order to prove a point. Sort of like a certain Sarkeesian..."
I haven't seen the shows in question so I can't tell who's telling the truth here. Is this redditor looking at things from a skewed view or did the YouTuber not do enough research? Just curious.
I haven't seen the show myself and can't make a personal assessment on it, but the comment that you quote doesn't make the most convincing argument. Like, even assuming everything they say is true...
I haven't seen the show myself and can't make a personal assessment on it, but the comment that you quote doesn't make the most convincing argument. Like, even assuming everything they say is true (which I have no clue if it is), I still agree with ThePedanticRomantic. "Not just wanting sex" and wanting to "treat her right" coming from the same person who engages in harassment is classic niceguy (which I think is the form this problem takes the most often in anime specifically).
If they remembered why that letter was brought up, the response to it was the important part. This was a response to the idea that basic feminist criticism of anime is inherently pushing western values where they don't belong...so they show an example that people (feminists!) in Japan oppose.
I'm not like, the biggest FeministFrequency fan, but taking pot shots at Sarkeesian also doesn't really lend them much credibility in my eyes. I don't think it's appropriate to get into a full defense of them (and I'm not particularly interested in doing so...as I said, not much of a fan), but for the most part they chose incredibly clear-clut examples and were generally very agreeable and even moderate.
There are two other points in there that are too plot-based for me to say anything on without watching this whole show for the sake of verifying a video I like, so I won't comment there. Like you, I'd like to hear from someone who has seen it, as it would be unfortunate if the example here wasn't that strong.
I've only seen the first four episodes of Hiso-Maso, and but the suit designer is uber-creepy. Also, the camera tends to focus on Hiso's ass while she's wearing the suit to an unnecessary degree....

I've also been watching this shitty shonen anime called The Seven Deadly Sins, and it's ridiculous just how often Meliodas ends up groping Elizabeth. Worse, the poor girl can't wear a short skirt without this little creep sticking his face in her crotch. The only character that seems to notice, let alone object, is the talking pig.
I managed to get through the first season, couldn't keep putting up with it in the second season so I didn't finish the first episode of that. It wasn't worth it. There is also the "adult guy in...

It wasn't worth it. There is also the "adult guy in love with a ancient being who just happens to look like a little girl" trope, as a warning. I still wonder why the fuck I bothered finishing the first season.
I've always got the impression that this stuff is 85% of anime. But because of that opinion I haven't watched enough to prove myself wrong. Unfortunately I did try seven deadly sins though.

As much as I wanna argue that anime isn't 85% shitty sex "humor" and naughty tentacles and over buxom teenagers.....it totally is. Like any media there are the gems that shine through all this crap but for the most part it's all low brow crap that dances to the same beat.
It's like how in western cable TV you can find a dozen shows with the same exact tropes, and character-types, and plot lines over and over again. It's the lowest common denominator of entertainment in the region.
This is probably the most succinct you can get while still being completely true. All media has a bunch of garbage with an occasional gem or two lying around. Look at American television and...

All media has a bunch of garbage with an occasional gem or two lying around. Look at American television and you'll find the same gratuitous levels of sex and general nudity in anything not rated PG-13, the same battle of the sexes trope, the same harmful sex-based stereotypes of the stupid male and neurotic female, and a bunch of other trash that, quite frankly, just get tiring. And yet, despite all of that, we still get something classic-worthy from time to time.
The primary difference between anime and much of American media is that if you're American or are otherwise a primary consumer of American media, then you're probably accustomed to seeing the kind of shit that's in American media and you end up getting desensitized to it, whereas anime has shit that you're not as likely to be accustomed to seeing.

I have a lot less patience for that stuff then I used to, but I still find a decent number of good shows to watch (I tend to ditch plenty of them one episode in). I would recommend stuff, but I have no idea of your preferences besides an odd culinary fixation.
I wasn't really aware what kind of place tildes was when considering changing the second P to an L. Probably should have, although I suppose it would still be an "odd culinary fixation". The top...

I had to make a dry joke about your username, given the context. Which isn't to say I haven't had some regrettable screen name choices. I haven't seen Monster, but I've seen a fair amount of the...

I haven't seen Monster, but I've seen a fair amount of the other two (although I stopped watching both). If you haven't seen Claymore yet, you'd probably enjoy it. Plot of the anime tracks well up until the last couple of episodes compared to the Manga (which is longer). It has an annoying bit with a much younger side-kick that has a thing for the protagonist, and stuff related to that, but otherwise it's a pretty good horror/action show.
Attack on Titan is also pretty good, but I'm sure you've heard of that at least, given it's popularity.

This video is a bit basic but I think it's justified given how weak and sometimes willingly ignorant anime YouTube tends to be on these kinds of topics. After all, the end goal of feminism being that it makes itself redundant means that repeating even what should be the most simple of points is necessary until it becomes the default way of thinking.
I also want to stick on a question: Do you know of other anime YouTube channels that are feminist or at least feminist-friendly? I've been away from that community for a while because several prominent channels took nosedives in regard to issues relevant to feminism, and I've been left with very few that I can still enjoy, and I'd love to hear who you think is doing good work.
I'm going to paste a comment from the reddit thread because I thought it was interesting and I can't ask in the thread anymore since it got locked.

It's a cultural blindspot.
I suppose we should be thankful for the genuinely interesting stuff that somehow got funded.
Something something "anime was a mistake"

The top three have got to be:
I had to make a dry joke about your username, given the context. Which isn't to say I haven't had some regrettable screen name choices.

Thanks a bunch, I shall investigate.
If you mean Ban and Elaine: it just gets worse in season 3.
Then it's good I stopped when I did. Or at least, more good then watching more.

Probably not worth a new thread, but here's a follow-up video addressing some of the responses the original got.
