Comment on Movies often contain chess games with basic errors. What motivates filmmakers to keep using a game they don't understand? in ~movies
HutchinsonianDemon So some of those HEMA guys actually put together a cinematic portrayal of their stuff that actually looks pretty damn cool while still being more "realistic". So while it's not exactly true to...So while it's not exactly true to life, it is more accurate than your average movie and honestly looks really fucking dope. I'd love to see a competent film maker incorporate this style of sword fighting into a large budget movie.

A few minutes later I get another Snapchat from her, and it was a picture of her and the dog in her car. I get home from work and there is the dog on my couch. His name is Mako, and he is the best boy ever. He's a border collie mixed with something else, we're not certain. He was found wandering the Wilds of rural Utah with no tags and no microchip. He's estimated to be about two years old, and he's clearly had training before cuz he's amazingly well behaved and knew sit, stay, come Etc. While he can sometimes be a pain in the ass because he is very smart, he's incredibly friendly to people and definitely interested in other dogs, though he doesn't want to play with them so much as herd them.
This is my first dog on my own, and I have never been more enamored with a dog. I love my Mako.

I think this movie is more about the inner darkness we all have given manifest. But I'm sure there's more in store, Peele has so far show great skill in crafting complex social-horror narratives.
Further reading makes me think it might be about immigration: "I definitely wanted to do a movie that started with this sense of invasion, this sense of the fear of other, the fear of the stranger from outside, which I think is a common fear in society these days, and then sort of force the characters to realize the invaders have their faces."

Like most states nowadays, WV has a nasty drug abuse problem so all the sketchy shit that comes with that is present.
Note that i've never lived there. I just drove through the state a couple dozen times driving between ohio and north carolina. And i'd always time my refuels so that i didn't have to stop in WV. This is a personal anecdote, but the few times I was forced to stop I felt like everything man made was just sorta rotting away.
Oh and one time I was refueling and the lady refueling next to me was smoking a lit cigarette. So there's that.

Like any media there are the gems that shine through all this crap but for the most part it's all low brow crap that dances to the same beat.
It's like how in western cable TV you can find a dozen shows with the same exact tropes, and character-types, and plot lines over and over again. It's the lowest common denominator of entertainment in the region.
