That was an extremely eludicating article. I'm a gay man and have no interest in lesbians in a sexual context, but I have seen some Yuri and even enjoyed it a little bit.
It seems to me that Yuri (and possibly Yaoi) can be somewhat better explained as an emotional and social framework to build a story on rather than simply stories about queer romance. To put it another way, it is designed to make you feel a specific way. It's kind of like moe in that way.
