I love romcoms! So so so much! Let me give you some:

Golden Time - Focused on university students and the source material is by the same author as Toradora!. It's not quite as perfect as Toradora!, but it's excellent for similar reasons.

Chuunibyou - All about holding on to youthful fantasy. Worships imagination for its own sake in a way that's really beautiful, and also holds that up against avoidance problems caused by trauma. Really comes into its own in the second season.

Ano Natsu de Matteru - Aggressively sentimental and warm. I suggest not looking at the tags or looking this up beyond just watching it.

Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojo - Plays with and interrogates the idea of natural genius in art. Explores trying to find motivation and work hard while being close to a bunch of prodigies. There's also some of that Eva-ish stuff questioning what responsibilities young people should have / the effects being pulled too early into the adult world has on teenagers (though lighter and more grounded than Eva ofc). Notably lewder than the others.

Love is War is currently airing new episodes on Funimation, but the first season is available on your service of choice, and the idea is that both romantic leads are trying goad each other into confessing, as "whoever confesses their love forfeits all power in the relationship," and this is why Love is War. So the main draw of the show is two exceptionally smart characters being very, very dumb around each other and if that scratches an itch for you, it's a well constructed show.

Otome Game no Hametsu Flag shika Nai Akuyaku Reijou ni Tensei shiteshimatta (which a wise man once told me translates to 'this was adapted from a light novel') is also a good one airing currently. Girl wakes up in another world, that happens to match an Otome game (Japanese visual novel game genre mostly aimed at women involving 'conquering' male love interests). However she wakes up in the body of the main villain of the game and has to work out how to avoid the main character killing her off.

I'd argue that they have, it's just that we're beyond having a one stop shop for anime, with lucrative exclusives and companies owning companies preventing one place from having all the anime, but that's a talk for another day. I'd second Villainess as well, since it seems to be reliability keeping my attention.

But those things you mention breach the Steam rule of piracy (make it more convenient to not pirate) which shows they haven't learned anything. I can stream literally any anime in HD on like 15 different websites - the paid websites invariably offer a worse service.

I'd like to firstly recommend Ore Monogatari! I personally found the anime to be very cute and sweet, it stays in line with the manga, and has a very cute romantic pairing.

Kimi Ni Todoke is also a very sweet rom Com. It's a high-school slice of life and focuses on a girl who's slightly considered an outcast because of her gloomy looks. She's surrounded by very sweet friends. It's very much a heart melt for me, I love the anime and manga!

I will also always plug gekkan shoujo nozaki-kun. It's less Rom and more Com but the anime was really enjoyable! Idk if they're going to do a season two, which is a bummer since they left off the first season a bit. But it's definitely worth a watch, and is also a high school slice of life (Jesus I clearly have a type).

Hooefully any of these interest you!! Let me know if any of them seem interesting!

I watched and enjoyed Kids on the Slope. The focus is the main characters' growth as musicians, but the real plot is a well-handled love triangle that I found compelling.

I've actually really enjoyed The Quintessential Quintuplets quite a bit these last few days. I don't know why, but I'm kind of embarrased to admit that I like these kind of shows, but it's actually really funny. And there's some serious moments as well. Aside from a few select ones, never really watched romcoms before.
