What have you been watching / reading this week? (Anime/Manga)
What have you been watching and reading this week? You don't need to give us a whole essay if you don't want to, but please write something! Feel free to talk about something you saw that was cool, something that was bad, ask for recommendations, or anything else you can think of.
If you want to, feel free to find the thing you're talking about and link to its pages on Anilist, MAL, or any other database you use!
Daily Lives of High School Boys. Its a fun fun, short skit type anime that I watch during lunch and tea breaks.
Hi, it's good to be back here.
I have mostly just been following along with Oregairu S3, SAO War of Underworld Part 2, and Re:Zero S2. I am enjoying all of them so far. Due to being busy with school and other life issues, it looks like it'll be hard to keep up with more shows, much less pick up anything from the upcoming season.
I wish you all the best.
I've been watching Mahoujin Guru Guru since two weeks ago, I remember they broadcast it on a local TV station when I was a child, and I really wanted to know how it ends, so I downloaded it (the 3 releases) to finally see the whole story, I think the series still holds up, the visuals are very clean and most of the videogame tropes on the series are still present in a most JRPGs.
Sousou no Frieren or Frieren at the Funeral.
So I've been following the updates of Frieren at the Funeral. It's about an elf and her disciples( and whoever she travels with along the way) who travel the world around them post-Demon lord era. This doesn't mean that demons aren't still hostile towards humans though.
Obviously being an elf, Frieren outlives the rest of the hero's party. And flashbacks to the old days come to her throughout the chapters. She has a disciple who she reluctantly takes in and teaches her human disciple magic. And as time passes and the disciple grows up, they travel the world.
Sometimes you might see remnants of the time the whole hero's party helped the people around them, as well as monuments made to honor them.
And I found a comment in the comments section that translates some German names/terms in the story. Some user by the name "Fim" did this translation.
From a well-known manga aggregator(with Manga in its name; I think it's frowned upon in Tildes to mention non-official non-legal manga sources here, so I won't mention the full name). Otherwise just pm me so I can link the source of the comment(has no ads at all).
The four heroes within the story are Mage Frieren, Hero Himmel, Priest Heiter, and Warrior Eisen. Of course, the titles before their names are just titles, not their actual names.
Frieren - 1.) to feel very cold; 2.) to freeze (liquids)
Himmel - 1.) sky 2.) heaven
Eisen - iron
Heiter - 1.) cheerful, in a good mood; 2.) fair (weather, meaning no or just a few clouds)
====
More concise description here(from MangaUpdates):
Frieren is a member of the hero's party that defeated the demon king. Both a magician and an elf, those are the things that separates her from the other members.

Deca-Dence is anime of the season by a big margin, fight me.
Been reading Somali and the Forest Spirit.
A little human girl named Somali travels with a Golem, a species that exists to protect forests, in search of her parents in a world that is hostile to humans. The girl has taken to seeing the Golem as a father, and the Golem, which is normally an unemotional mechanical being, oddly cares for her. Golem is nearing the end of his life, and they must travel through a beautifully illustrated fantasy land while hiding Solami's identity.
I don't normally like fantasy, but this has been fun so far. I think its pretty and cute. An anime has has been recently produced.
Man I'm getting real bad at posting these on Saturday like I want to. Oh well. Season is wrapping up nice and fast, and feelings are mixed. But I don't think I will talk more until the season is finally fully finished. Honestly not a ton to mention today, so just onto the weekly thoughts.
2020 Summer Week 10
Uzaki-chan Wants to Hang Out! Ep 10
I always enjoy seeing these two get closer to each other, and accidently realize how much stuff they do that is similar to couples just normally. Would be even better if they just finally got together of course but wouldn’t be surprised if they ended the manga when they finally did.
The Millionaire Detective - Balance: UNLIMITED Ep 6
Wow, now that is what I call unexpected. The story is now getting much, much more complicated, and interesting now. We are now in the solid actual story portion of the show, and all I really hope is they have enough time to flesh it out and finish it starting so late.
I am also wondering if I should reclassify this show as a cyberpunk. It isn’t a super futuristic cyberpunk like Ghost in the Shell or Blade Runner or most of the common cyberpunk shows/movies. But I’m starting to get the feeling that the base building blocks are there. You have a massive family and companies with what seems like unlimited power and money to influence things as they please. To the point that they can put together an expensive and complex hit on the head of a foreign state. I’ll need to see more and get more background details to really 100% say it could be classified as one. But from what I see it is on its way there already.
The Millionaire Detective - Balance: UNLIMITED Ep 7
Hmmm, interesting but not what I expected at all. I want to see where this goes with the next episode. Just don’t really know what to make of the events that happened this episode at all. Especially the order of events, they kept jumping around so much from time and place that I ended up getting a bit lost.
My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU Climax! Ep 9
Seriously though, we are 3 episodes from this show being done. And the main girl has had the least amount of screen-time the entire season. Something just feels completely wrong with this show and how it is ending, it really does. Normally in a harem show if you are planning on finishing it with a single girl winning you would be showing that girl. Or if your planning on having nobody win you will keep showing everyone hanging out and enjoying there time together in typical fashion. But with this, it feels like they have decided that Yui has already won and have forgotten about the rest of the cast of girls.
I was browsing the character page the other day and realized just how few characters are actually showing up at all this season. They only have 2 characters that have shown up repeatably over this season, being Hachiman and Yui. The rest of the cast has had as little as 5min on screen or less. If they are lucky like Yukino they might be up to 30min. But overall, it just feels wrong, you spend seasons building up this large cast of characters in the school, and in the final season none of them show up at all. If I didn’t know better I would think they forgot this was the last season, so had to dump everyone and focus on the main story only or would never finish.
2010 Summer Week 10
Nura: Rise of the Yokai Clan Ep 9
While the main yokai story is moving along nicely at this point. I’m kinda wondering when they will get back around to the human side of the story. That side of trying to hide things from the school mates and blend in with the world around him was also interesting and wondering when it will return.
Amagami SS Ep 9
And we are now onto the next arc already, man how many different girls are in this show. Just feels like they have an infinite supply of different girls with the various different tropes to base arc’s around. This one kind annoyed me at first with the whole narrator bit, it just felt like a bit much. But it did improve a fair bit near the later part of the episode.
Cat Planet Cuties Ep 9
Well this was a sorta interesting episode. But overall, I’m not sure what to make of this show anymore. I really liked it at first, it was this crazy unexpected mess. But it was a good mess, just random crazy things happening that just made it fun. But then things slowed down and stopped being crazy. Now it just feels a bit boring compared to where it started. And it isn’t like along the way they transitioned into a hardcore story or character study or something, instead they have been trapped in limbo. They don’t know what they where they want to go at all, and it harms my enjoyment of this show.
