I like a good poem, and this one has a bitchin' title, but Why share it if it ain't accessible? Maybe someone has the membership required, but it sounds like a minority case here.

Seems like this conversation has been had a lot around here lately, but I think the only reason this gets objections is that we put a uniquely low value on the written word. There's a whole lot of things we talk about on here where you can only really participate in the conversation if you pay up or bypass that somehow (torrenting, paywall bypass extensions, etc.), but people only seem to complain when the content is words.
Don't get me wrong, I'm a lover of free culture and filesharing and if that's what we could post here then I probably would, but I don't think paywalled things should just be excluded.
Here's the thing: You're not excluded from the conversation on torrenting, even if you aren't torrenting in your spare time. You know the gist of it, and you can talk about it in theoretical...

You're not excluded from the conversation on torrenting, even if you aren't torrenting in your spare time. You know the gist of it, and you can talk about it in theoretical terms.
This? I can't even begin to converse on a piece of literary art that hasn't been fully revealed to me. Like I said: bitchin' title – but that's no conversation piece.
And yeah, you can only participate in a conversation about things you can access. You can access torrenting as an idea through Wikipedia, or books of your choosing, or conversations with others. I can't access the poem other than through a website that's directly blocking my access to it. (I checked: this is the only source of the poem.)
Hm? By torrenting I meant getting around a paywall (like, say, buying a movie) by torrenting instead. Not the topic of torrenting. There's a lot of things on this website that I cannot talk about...

There's a lot of things on this website that I cannot talk about in any meaningful way unless I pay money to get it or somehow illegally bypass that requirement. A paywalled article or poem isn't different.
My bad. I misinterpreted your comment. Like what? Games, films, TV series – things that have always been priced to pay for their creators' efforts? Is it the same situation here? Does my paying...

My notion of paywall isn't centered around this being a poem, or a piece of writing of any other shape. That I, as a writer, would choose to publish my works freely on the Internet is but my choice, and I understand those who seek to profit from publishing it online directly. I'm not dismissive of the effort it takes to come up with a good piece of literary art.
My problem here is with the fact that there's a piece of writing dangled in front of me that looks like it would be free but isn't, even though it's on the Internet, because it's behind a paywall – and you want folks to discuss it. Fair enough, someone might pay, considering it's not just this one poem that's on the website.
It doesn't feel right, though, in a way I'm failing to describe.
Yeah, I don't really know what you're getting at if it's not what I was responding to. I don't think I was hiding that it's behind a paywall. I made sure to tag it as such and The Paris Review is...

I don't think I was hiding that it's behind a paywall. I made sure to tag it as such and The Paris Review is a well-known "premium" publication anyway. It seems to me like it's nearly identical to these other situations other than some immaterial feeling that you've got about it. That feeling is valid, if something feels wrong then it feels wrong, but I don't see why that should limit what's posted here, especially when you can just filter out paywalled things.
I wasn't able to find any other source of the poem, on Tumblr or elsewhere, via StartPage or Google. EDIT: which is to say "How did you find it?" rather than "fuck u im not rong here".

-_- Take the acerbic tone elsewhere. I'm familiar with the intricacies of searching for stuff online – and I still can't find it on my own, ever after I went and rechecked my search results.

The full poem is behind a paywall, unfortunately.
I'd share it from the physical copy at my library but I don't think Deimos would like that too much :P

There is a Tumblr out there, but your point still stands.

Sorry. Maybe it's some personalization thing? Google is weird these days.
