One of the things I found really interesting about this video was how different the books and movies are. My partner is a big HP fan, though kind of to Shaun's point they mostly read fanfic of people trying to fix problems JK wrote in, or investigating ideas JK just dropped after a surface level take. Since they are a fan, I've been learning more about the HP universe because I didn't really give a shit about it growing up. All my experience with the series was from watching the movies (I think I might have read the first 4 books as they were released while I was in like 3rd grade and then stopped after that?). So when I was hearing Shaun talk I was really confused because I didn't remember half of the things he talked about. Then he'd follow it up with "And smartly, the movies changed this". Wild to think about how massive of an IP and cultural influence Harry Potter is, and how drastically different the characters are between books and movies and I just hadn't heard about it at all before now.
I think it's very telling that JKR wasn't at the recent Harry Potter Reunion event - a lot of the cast and crew really seem to have taken the "good bits" of the series to heart, and are very...

An hour and 45 minutes of complaints about the Harry Potter series. Most of them are solid complaints (as of 35 min in).
Highlights as of 35-ish min (I'm stopping to go about my day and guessing the odds of any of these arguments being new to me is low, not that the essay is bad):
"What is done isn't so important compared to who is doing it" and "Remember, there are no good and bad actions in Harry Potter, only good and bad teams. And you can tell the bad team because they're ugly, fat, and covered in snakes"
JKR introduces ideas on several occasions that could be interesting, but then drops them. Notable examples being the Weasley's poverty, time turners, and the non-materializing wizard supremacy plot.
