EDIT after a re-read: One of the reasons why this stuck with me is because I actually quite liked Bombadil -- I was sore he didn't make it into the Jackson films, and I liked his songs and stuff. So having this weird character explained so convincingly is even better. Like the Darth Jar Jar stuff.
