It’s super disappointing that this stuff is all siloed within Facebook. Carmack is obviously brilliant, and it seems like this work is all really interesting. But I will never buy an Oculus product because of the connection to Facebook, and I can’t see this kind of technology becoming standardized in the market when there are several layers of proprietary technology (e.g., Oculus working closely with Qualcomm to take advantage of the silicon in ways that aren’t necessarily available to other companies).

John Carmack keynotes are always a pleasure to listen, and this time is no exception.
