Play Chess against GPT-2

@theshawwn:
I am preparing to release a notebook where you can play chess vs GPT-2. If anyone wants to help beta test it: 1. visit https://t.co/CpWrFvtnY2 2. open in playground mode 3. click Runtime -> Run All 4. Scroll to the bottommost cell and wait 6 minutes If you get stuck, tell me.

      Hilarious. ...and scary at the same time.

      GPT-2 is a text prediction program with no concept of chess. As far as it knows, it’s trying to predict short alphanumeric strings like “e2e4” or “Nb7”. Nobody told it this represents a board game. It doesn’t even have a concept of 2D space that it could use to understand such a claim.

      Hilarious.

      How impressed should we be that the same AI can write poems, compose music, and play chess, without having been designed for any of those tasks?

      ...and scary at the same time.

    Constantly amazed by the new and creative uses people find for GPT-2. It's just a text generator and now look at everything it's done. Not just writing articles and recipes and blog posts and extradimensional crochet hat patterns, but being used as a component in text adventure games, a chess AI. Makes me happy knowing there's that kind of screwery happening out in the world.

    Going to hold out for a release of "Global Thermonuclear War," but this is pretty impressive too. It uses previous text notation for chess games to predict valid moves for Chess for the current board state. It's not fantastic by any means, but it certainly can compete with you.
