This is the first time a personal blog has presented a pop-over message to join a newsletter. How far we have fallen.

I read everything with Reader mode in Safari. It makes all that crap disappear. (Though there are a few sites that do something wonky that causes Reader mode not to work.)

I think this line is key:

But collecting feedback requires a soft skill: empathy. Can you understand why people disagree with you? What are they valuing differently?

I grew up with a family that constantly offered nitpicking criticisms of everything I did. It was not constructive feedback. It was attempting to make me feel small so they could feel bigger. It really hobbled my ability to interact with other people. Any criticism seemed like just another stupid nitpick from an insecure jerk. But learning how people think really helped me to understand the difference between when people were being insecure and when they actually had a valid complaint. I learned this way too late in life. Unfortunately, there are still a few people I have to deal with who are insecure. Even when they have a valid point they deliver it so toxically that you want to ignore them.
