DDOS question/curiosity
Non-comp person here; is there a record for longest period of time a DDOS attack occurred on a website? Would it be possible to forcibly keep a site offline for an extended length of time with a continuous DDOS attack?
Denial-of-service attacks are almost as old as the internet itself, there is a huge arsenal available to would-be attackers. What you're thinking of is called an Advanced Persistent Denial-of-service attack. With proper reconnaissance, planning and resources an attacker can utilize a variety of methods and vectors to degrade or deny a service for quite a while. According to Wikipedia 38 days is the record, but I wouldn't be surprised if there were longer instances.
Thank you for the excellent reply!
