Finally finished my oak and perspex dice tower that I've been meaning to get done for ages. It was a gift for a friend, he was very happy with it. Was my first project with my new bandsaw and new not-totally-shit jack plane. Both did their jobs admirably and made for some very tight tolerances and nice tidy joins (that the baffles have good contact both front and back so I could edge glue them rather than adding more visible supports was very satisfying).

I didn't want to dick about cutting the pre-cut-and-edge-polished perspex so I had to make the frame the exact size of the pieces I had. Turned out nicely I think. I'd usually line stuff like this with black but I think the purple makes it a little more jolly while still being quite restrained and stylish.

Points available if anyone can name the game the dice are from.

I'm really happy with how the mix turned out, and I experimented with some new mastering techniques which seem to have really paid off big-time!
Will hopefully be able to share it this weekend ♥

Facets as general and universal navigation. I can’t show it yet, but there will be a catalog for it soon. It took me a long time to figure out how to work with it and what it is. Unfortunately, many of the available explanations are too complicated. Usually, when there is a misunderstanding of something, complex things are always said. Facets are simple, very simple, and it's very strange that this universal navigation is so little used.

They frightened and confused everyone with formulas and graphs. ) Facets are usually used in search, but this is a very truncated and fairly simple scheme.

Continuing on my journey of making a music video (previous thread ) I finished an sword-summoning FX test that I've been trying to get right for a few months.

    Shardblade Summoning FX Test #2 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e1Y_xFfc1lo

I finally found the right combination of shaders and particle effects to get the look that I wanted. This was challenging to get right since I had a few that looked really good when the sword was still, but then fell apart when it was swung around like ..... an actual sword.

I also took the time during this test to explore how to better use the cinematic camera in Unreal. So playing around with focus, aperture, fstop, and all the things that you have on an actual film camera. Playing around with shot length, angles, lighting, and slowmotion all to try and learn how to tell a story with the camera. It also helped me make sure the effect I was showcasing held up under various lighting angles and speed variations.

I'm probably going to take a break from this project for a few weeks and focus on something else, just to change it up a bit. Then come back to this one and try to figure out the Shardplate armor.

I'm playing more guitar, finally going back to learning harder songs to develop the skills years of noodling have sort of given me. Currently I'm working on Blood and Thunder by Mastodon, and sort of have eyes on the entire "Leviathan" album.

This is a little dumb something I'm working on in BambooTracker, a PC-98/Yamaha YM2608 tracker. I'm switching to chiptunes after the well of inspiration in Renoise+VSTs seems to have run dry, and it's easier than ever to do it. This is a quirky format, with volume, for example, seeming to be on a weird curve.

On a related note, I look forward to working in the current iteration of Deflemask, which is charging money to aid in continued development/server costs, but is also well worth the $20 I've spent (you buy for Win/Linux separately, min $10 each). The Linux release has been shifted to a 64-bit AppImage, they ported it to Android, and are dreaming of a Switch release. The interface is much more refined, as well, from the last time I used it.

I also have been wanting to try to write for general midi (I'm not sure what else to call it), and got Rosegarden + QSynth set up in Arch to this end. It'll tie in to my passive attempts at Doom mapping, because I like the idea of creating custom music in levels I've made, while keeping everything vanilla-compatible. I got burned out by the time it was set up, but I can go back to it now.
