What creative projects have you been working on?
This topic is part of a series. It is meant to be a place for users to discuss creative projects they have been working on.
Projects can be personal, professional, physical, digital, or even just ideas.
If you have any creative projects that you have been working on or want to eventually work on, this is a place for discussing those.
For years I’ve been trying to get a couple friends to work with me on a writing project. Now it looks like the stars are aligning and we all have enough time and energy.
I’ve generated a single fictional pen name for us to share and wrote out the first 10,000 words of a meat and potatoes action sci-fi alien invasion of present day Earth.
Then I handed it off to my friend in London, who is just wrapping up the first draft of his latest novel. He can adapt or change anything he likes (I’m still not thrilled at the title I chose) and carry forward from there.
Then he will send it to my friend in Oregon. I won’t get it back until he is finished and only then will I get a chance to see what changes have been made and how the story has developed. We all have decades of experience writing action set pieces for comic books and Hollywood and self published novels. But the consumption habits of today’s readers are so voracious that it is hard for a single author to provide as much content as is demanded. So hopefully the three of us can create a unified voice and a bunch of thrilling page-turners that make a lot of people happy and help toward our retirements.
I've started work on a short film inspired by To Build A Fire. I just got my new cinema camera (Ronin 4D) so excited to try it out.
Jacob Geller's Fear of Cold, probably one of my favourite videos ever, was my introduction to To Build a Fire. Big fan of slowly mounting dread and eventual panic that the story conveys
I recently started getting back into pixel art. I'm aiming to do one new small canvas scenescape each day - here's one so far that I'm particularly happy with!
On a related note, if anyone knows of any good forums or other online resources for getting good feedback on pixel art in particular, I'm all ears. I'm entirely self taught through trial and error, and would love to find other experienced folks who could give constructive criticism/otherwise point me in the right direction.
That looks really great - I love the colors you chose! I don't know any communities, but I did bookmark an incredible pixel artist's blog once with fairly detailed technical articles - maybe you'll find it useful? http://danfessler.com/blog
Tysm, I'll definitely check it out!
I recently had a brainwave and decided to get back into model building... kitbashing, specifically. I'm taking an old model car set and turning it into a Cyberpunk roadster monstrosity, adding bits of other car sets and aircraft parts to trick it all out, adding weapons, armour, exposed tubes and wires, greebles, etc.
It's super fun to think about the storytelling behind it as a piece... Who does this car belong to? What made them modify it? Has it seen combat? What does this bit of cable do, and why did they attach it here? What does the car sound like?
My partner got me an airbrush set for Christmas as well, so I'm looking forward to giving it an outlandish paintjob when the shell is finished too. If it turns out well, I'm gonna do a block of scenery for it to sit on, and maybe get it a glass case to hang out in. Go full art piece with it.
I would be super interested in seeing pictures when it's done, or progress pictures!
Sure! https://imgur.com/a/kDTMVpE
I'll post the final if I end up finishing it, but that'll be in a long while. I'm not rushing this and I wanna do the airbrushing stage outside, where it is currently very, very cold.
Very cool, thank you for sharing! I love that tiny machine gun
I finally finished a Witcher 3 inspired needlefelt in a cross stitch hoop, an Igni place of power. I had the actual needlefelt done for months but it was missing the backing. I plan to make a full set for all five Signs.
I'm also working on a scarf for my dad on my rigid heddle loom - it's my first big project and the first one where I picked out all the fibre myself. I'm super pleased it's turning out the way I wanted it to.
Ooh, I'd love to see the Witcher 3 signs when they're done!! :) Or in progress! That all sounds like it takes so much skill, huge kudos!
here's the finished one and there's the current WIP that more or less also only needs the Sign and the felt backing
Oh wow!! That's so heckin cool and way more detailed than I was thinking! I love the backgrounds. Shame there weren't any places of power in Toussaint, that was a beautiful region! :)
There are! There's one with a view of the palace and I am considering doing that one (but as the last one so I get some more practice on details). I kind of want to do one from every region, so I already have Velen and Skellige, Toussaint in planning, and I need to go look at the ones in White Orchard and Kaer Morhen Valley to see if I can get good screenshots (or if I pick a nice view and add the PoP)
Oooo apparently my memory of Toussaint was entirely eclipsed by the vampires haha! That's so delightful, I can't wait to see the finished works!
Also the Skellige one needs a photoshooped divebombing siren :) Those darn annoying things!
Currently working on my first crochet project, a granny square bag! The squares are just drying now from being wet blocked, and I hope to start putting them together soon. Besides a couple sewing projects with a LOT of help from my very knowledgeable and talented sister, this is pretty much my first time doing any kind of fibre arts, especially one that is focused on yarn rather than fabric and thread, and I've been having a lot of fun with it so far. Very relaxing and mindless after not too much practice, and I'm loving having something to do with my hands while watching video essays or tv :)
