When the cold, dead nothing-smell of winter finally lifts, and you can actually smell soil, trees, air... it's rejuvenating. Even in the city where everything smells like exhaust and grease anyway, I still get it. It's the best.

Loud, silly, crunchy car dogfights, a decent variety of weapons and parts to loot from encounters, and a really good paintjob editor to boot.
Spoilers
Something the game didn't tell me is that once you lose a car, you lose all the parts, weapons and upgrades that you put into it, permanently. The game's difficulty curve does not really account for this, so even grinding back up to where you were is overly hard. I found a workaround for the later enemy waves and bosses by strapping 3 minethrowers onto a truck and playing tailgunner while they died in my wake, but I wish I could have got to the late stage of the game with the machine gun interceptor I was leveling up before it got blown to bits. Maybe that's just a demo thing, or something they'll figure out later on in development. Still fun, though. A simple yet engrossing system to play around in, and it seems like the devs know what they're doing.

It's not a mechanically rich game or anything, but it's got some decently implemented interaction and traversal mechanics that draw you in a little bit more than simply 'press a button to do a thing', which I liked. The 'hide-from-monster' sections got a tad repetitive, but they were admittedly fun and not too drawn out.
I didn't find this game as pants-shittingly scary as Amnesia or anything, but sometimes (and I know I'm not alone in this) I don't particularly feel like shitting my pants. At least it didn't share Frictional's obsession with light management.
But my god, the voice acting, the script, the world design... just lovely. I think we can safely say that's kinda The Chinese Room's thing at this point. A Lovecraftian horror game that takes place entirely on a Scottish oil rig... Sure, why not.

Haven't seen a game that pushes the boundaries of the medium like this since maybe Hellblade, which had similar themes, although Indika is a little less involved and there's no combat or QTEs. Much more chill. If you're gonna grab it, definitely go in blind, it's one of those.

When I do especially long notes or things for me to read in the future, they're so full of references and turns of phrase that are inherently familiar to myself, but that nobody who isn't me would understand in the slightest. So it's almost written in code.
It's a journal, the only person who needs to read it is you. Otherwise, it's a book.

The leadup to the ending was intense, but ultimately underwhelming, tbh. I was expecting some super hard boss fight before 'ascension' or whatever, but they decided to go for a 4th wall break instead. Still felt good to get there though. Not gonna lie, my heart was pounding while listening to the final tape, holding this crappy cowboy gun, half-expecting a giant robot to come swooping around the corner. Was left wanting more... so yeah, I would love a Receiver 3. -

Not saying it's not infuriating to encounter, but finally getting the hang of it myself was genuinely thrilling.

It didn't end up being exactly what I wanted it to be, i.e., a true open world drive with encounters with weird shit along the way, but I enjoyed what they presented and I'll probly still pick it up. Vehicular survival is a rare genre and one that I'm really into.

I'm taking an old model car set and turning it into a Cyberpunk roadster monstrosity, adding bits of other car sets and aircraft parts to trick it all out, adding weapons, armour, exposed tubes and wires, greebles, etc.
It's super fun to think about the storytelling behind it as a piece... Who does this car belong to? What made them modify it? Has it seen combat? What does this bit of cable do, and why did they attach it here? What does the car sound like?
My partner got me an airbrush set for Christmas as well, so I'm looking forward to giving it an outlandish paintjob when the shell is finished too. If it turns out well, I'm gonna do a block of scenery for it to sit on, and maybe get it a glass case to hang out in. Go full art piece with it.

You can tell the designer was playing Dark Souls one day and thought "what if this, but with guns?", and then went and did it. And it works.

My brother got laid off (again), and the house where he rents the basement is getting sold. I had a panic attack five minutes into tonight's after-work coding class and quit the lesson.
At least my parents are doing good.
I've never read anything about this before, and the only person I've known who also gets this is my mom, oddly enough, but there's a very weird sensation I get when I'm on the verge of falling asleep, in a halfway-dreaming state almost, where my hands, feet, tongue and teeth feel... huge.
Remember those diagrams of the human sensory system that are scaled according to sensitivity? So you've got this weird-looking human with gigantic hands, feet, lips and tongue... that's how I feel, lying in bed. Like my jaw and tongue are massive, not heavy, just scaled disproportionately, and my hands and feet are bigger than the rest of my body combined. If I move, it goes away, but as soon as I stop moving and try to rest again, it comes back, until I finally fall asleep. Dreams are usually normal after that.
I had a series of night-terrors as a child after taking Tylenol for a fever, and I think that's when it started. Sometimes they are accompanied by half-dreams of metallic tastes and textures, like infinitely crumpled tin-foil, crushed down to the micro-roughness of pumice stone. This combined with the sensation of disproportion. It's not pleasant at all.
If anyone else gets this or knows what the hell it is, I'd like to learn more about it.
