What creative projects have you been working on?
This topic is part of a series. It is meant to be a place for users to discuss creative projects they have been working on.
Projects can be personal, professional, physical, digital, or even just ideas.
If you have any creative projects that you have been working on or want to eventually work on, this is a place for discussing those.
Stitched this purple flowery heart some weeks ago that I can finally post because the tildes-using recipient has been given it irl so won't be spoiled now!
And also just finished these watercoloury flowers yesterday. This one is a little special as it's the first thing I've stitched on this aida which was my grandmother's and it's a pretty high count so it was quite challenging.
Wow! Is the thread/yarn multicolored? How did you get the coloring in it like that? It's really very beautiful. You should be proud of that. I would be.
To be honest I think my iPhone's camera does a lot of work. Especially the second project - the camera has sharpened it in a way, like it doesn't quite look like that in real life. Anyway no it's not multicolored! Each stitch is its own colour. The heart is 7 colours and the watercolour one is just 4 colours
I try to be, thank you!
Holy cow! I was imagining just some multi-colored yarn/thread, but you had to do each one a different color by hand?! That takes tremendous effort!
Haha, well wait till you hear about some previous projects that consisted of upwards of 60 different colours and upwards of 15000 and 20000 or more stitches! Thank you for the kind words in any case 😊
Weeps in fingers… sadly I used to hand carve chess pieces but as my eyes diminished so did my ability to make them the way I used to. The eyes and the fingers feel like the first things to go…
That's such a shame! :(
What if you made much bigger ones? Or does it not work that way. Is there a younger relative or friend's kid who's interested in learning? I love crafts of all kinds
I don't have the space to turn or carve anything bigger (plus my hands wouldn't really let me). Sadly, no, I don't know anyone interested in learning. Still, it was fun while it lasted and I will always remember it fondly. That's part of why I love reading this thread and seeing what others are doing.
In the past I've dabbled in mixing different colour strands into each thread.....but it was too much work.
The flowers are absolutely gorgeous!!
Made this flower as a practice project, using regular cotton embroidery threads woven together (kumihimo chord) and then folded into a plum blossom (mizuhiki knot).
The eventual goal is to get decent enough at this to make fancy chords and knots with more expensive materials like Japanese mizuhiki threads and silk and metal wires. For now bog standard cotton threads are fine.

This is beautiful, gorgeous colours and weaving!
Also bookmarked. Might try this myself - I'll report back if I do!
