I also have a small hardware setup (not modular because $$$) that I hope to eventually use for a live set like back in the day. Here's my bandcamp page.

Nice! I'll check it out. When are you moving back? Look into the Portland Synth Library. It's an awesome resource for weirdos like us.

I'm still working on my novel thingy. I'm so close to done to draft 2, like something like 90% done. Maybe one or two broader things I want to revisit (like consistency of certain nouns) but really most of the important things I got done as I was going page by page. Of course, hitting the ending is definitely causing me to slow down. The very end before the epilogue-bits I think needs some major work still.

I'm down to 109k words. Probably won't hit 100k but I'm a lot closer than where I started at 123k. There's a few more things I could just kill but don't really want to. But overall it's definitely more concise now, especially in the parts that matter.

I'm increasingly hitting a point of uncertainty in what to do next. I'm sure I could keep doing passes with incremental word tweaks forever, make a 2.1 then a 2.2 etc. But it's at a point where I could just call it. I've done what I set out to do, which is write something. I guess I could have called that done after Draft 1, but it was painfully obvious that wasn't at a state I could be proud of. At this point, I could just slam the drawer shut and focus on other things... but it feels hollow.

At work we have an automated planning system which we receive at around 6 PM every night. This is essentially the beginning of our night and nothing really starts happening until a little before midnight into the next morning unless we're in busy season.

The problem with this is that the projections and planning is garbage. It's far off from what we really need and if anything goes wrong it’s not going to anticipate that, so we generally ignore it. We come up with our plan manually and make adjustments throughout the night.

As annoying as it is, we take comfort knowing that we know what we're doing and therefore our nights go smoothly.

Because other locations don't do their own planning and use that same planning system they end up underplanned which means leaving things behind for the next day or increased cost—I was a little shocked to find out that this is regularly happening for other locations.

So lately I've been working on my own planning software which automatically adjusts throughout the night so that it can make changes if anything doesn't pan out or if anything unexpected happens. I've long had my own projections which have always been more accurate than the ones provided, but now I want to automate the allocations.

My plan is to get it working for us then get a few other locations to try it out and eventually get it across the network. I'm already in a group chat with people from other locations who know me for other projects used throughout the company (many of them reach out to me for various things), so I'm sure I'll be able to get some willing beta testers.

I just submitted my entry for my first game jam. I’m quite exhausted and getting a headache. It was a solo endeavour, and I’ve been working alone on this for about 35 hours since Friday morning, day job not included.

The biggest thing I got out of it is how much clarity a well defined scope can give me; that, and also not being afraid of cutting things down in order to deliver by a deadline. I barely managed to get by, even after I drastically reduced the scope several times!

But I’m glad I did it, because it allowed me time to polish it and improve the presentation.

All in all, it was a great experience for learning more about Godot. The last thing I need to do is to catch my breath, rest a bit, and do a recap of all the lessons I learned, and where to go next from here. I’ve also kept a lite journal / devlog while working on, which will definitely come in useful.
