      I dont mind these elements as long as the transitions are smooth. I can remember in Windows XP when they put that stuff in, it was choppy with low frame rate and as you said it felt like a hindrance. Now the hardware is there to support it and it feels more natural.

        Honestly, even Windows 11's animations feel sluggish sometimes, and a lot of it I think comes down to the fact that you can tell it's entering an "animation state" or whatever. You also can't...

        Honestly, even Windows 11's animations feel sluggish sometimes, and a lot of it I think comes down to the fact that you can tell it's entering an "animation state" or whatever. You also can't really interrupt any animations once they've started.

    This is an interesting lens to view interface design from. As the author points out, these visual brain triggers are inherited from the real world with skeuomorphic design. But as we have moved past skeuomorphism, these triggers still seem to remain behind, at least in good interfaces. I don't do much user interface design myself, but I am going to consider these ideas when I setup my computer working environment.

    I wasn't 100% sure which tilde to put this in, so please move it if you think it fits somewhere else better.
