Jesus Fucking Christ it should not be that easy to commit ecological genocide. Fucking hell, that article just got more and more depressing with each line.

The latest die-off started, Iowa officials said, when a valve was left open over a weekend on a storage tank at NEW Cooperative.........265,000 gallons of liquid nitrogen fertilizer spilled into a drainage ditch and into the East Nishnabotna River, which flows into the Nishnabotna River and then the Missouri River.

Jesus Fucking Christ it should not be that easy to commit ecological genocide.

Iowa officials estimated that more than 749,000 fish died in that state.

The fish kill was one of the five largest on record in Iowa, according to state data, and the worst since runoff from a dairy farm in 2013 killed more than 800,000 fish.

We just don’t have a number of them [fish kills]. But they are happening quite frequently.

On a national scale, the fish kill in Iowa and Missouri was considered a medium to large event

Fucking hell, that article just got more and more depressing with each line.

Those companies need to be fined out of existence, and the culpable parties charged criminally. This shit should not be tolerated.

FWIW, I agree with you, but it won't happen. Especially not in Iowa and Missouri. Probably much of the Midwest. Or even the US as a whole. As I'm sure you're aware, states regularly bend over backwards for farming and agriculture. I'm sure there'll be some fines levied, but I'd be shocked it they're fined out of existence and/or criminally charged. Especially in Iowa where ag is the name of the game.

The fish rots from the head down. One day there will be a reckoning because the system is wrong and corrupt, but sadly it will be a long time until then.
