Borders is gone, and Books-A-Million has always seemed to cater to a different demographic (think Middle America or working class. BAM is also apparently on the decline). It’s a lot easier to fight online stores if you don’t have to also fight a brick-and-mortar competitor.

True, but don't forget with publisher deals they're also fighting the likes of Target and Walmart.
