Wow, after months of MoM real wage growth combined with decreasing inflation, the lines finally intersected, and there was YoY real wage growth in June. Nice to see. That soft landing is looking more and more likely.

    US specific numbers.

Sorry, off topic, but on Tildes should we assume titles are about the USA if it doesn't mention another country? I know this is tagged USA but that doesn't come through in the RSS feed.

Well, I think it's a prudent thing to do, given site demographics. It's not policy or anything, but the discouragement from editorialization titles, and the natural focus on, say, a US outlet to not mention the fact that they're talking about the US, means that there'll be a lot of titles which are implicitly oriented around the US.

Huh? There is not really any discouragement of that here on Tildes. Quite the opposite, in fact, if the editorializing is meant to help clarify things for people... like adding US to titles about...

Huh? There is not really any discouragement of that here on Tildes. Quite the opposite, in fact, if the editorializing is meant to help clarify things for people... like adding US to titles about the US that don't mention that fact. @Algernon_Asimov has been doing that for us for years. :P

Exactly! And that's not the only tweak I've make for clarity. I'll expand initialisms/acronyms where they're not commonly known, or are country-specific, or based in jargon (I did one yesterday:...

          Exactly!

And that's not the only tweak I've make for clarity.

          • I'll expand initialisms/acronyms where they're not commonly known, or are country-specific, or based in jargon (I did one yesterday: "DEA" => "Drug Enforcement Administration").

          • I'll add a country where it's not specified ("highest in the country" => "highest in the USA")

          • I'll add people's titles and countries where it's relevant ("Biden says..." => "U.S. President Biden says... ").

          • I'll add something to specify which Supreme Court is being discussed (the USA isn't the only country with a Supreme Court).

          And so on.

Because I am very strongly AGAINST the idea that we should assume the USA is being referred to by default, or that we're all Americans and should know what's being referred to in a vague title.

Huh... I always thought DEA = Drug Enforcement Agency. But this whole time I was wrong! It is a US Federal law enforcement agency, but the A in the acronym stands for Administration.

I had to look it up, because I didn't know. Which is kind of the point. Sometimes people don't know what initialisms and acronyms mean.
