There’s a subtle disparagement here. His message is home ownership is desirable and superior. He therefore, necessarily, considers his renters as less than. Not to mention systemic oppression would never permit a great many people to purchase land at a distance.
I also challenge his notion that owning (with a mortgage) is cheaper than renting in madison, or any town with more amenities than walmart, cheddars, and possibly starbucks.
