A US colleague once described mass produced US food (particularly candy) as tasting like barbie make-up, and I feel that description is oddly spot on. The artificial additives and flavours in a lot of US processed foods give some things a very plastic-like taste. Then you get to the ridiculous amount of sugar added to even the savoury food. Sliced bread should not taste like cake folks... If you don't grow up on that kind of food it's quite jarring to try it for the first time. Obviously not all food from the US is like that, but if you got rid of the mass produced ultra processed foods like the ones in this video, I don't think the country would be missing out on much (and may frankly be better off).
