It's tough reading about Bourdain. It's apparent writers adored him. He did a fantastic thing with his career and sharing the human experience. The New Yorker has my favorite article about him....

Re-reading his AMAs was also nice, but it's awful knowing someone who was really good at bringing people together is gone.

I decided to check out an episode of Parts Unknown today as a lot of people I respect are really upset over his death. Of course, I've seen his shows before, but only passively and I've tuned them out as I would my parents watching House Hunters when I was a kid.

I don't understand the full extent of what everyone gushing about him feels after this loss, how could I? But I do immediately see a certain realness in there. Not only in his general demeanor, but in his position as a guy who made a living being a tourist. Lots of iffy icky gross shit comes along with that, there's a reason people in any touristy area fuckin hate tourists. There's a lot to be admired about staying in that space and (from what I've seen) being willing to engage with all the complications that come with it, instead of making it a squeaky clean production that paints over all of that.

Idk, it seems like he was a cool dude, and this article helps cement that impression. Rest in peace.
