I've made this quite a few times, aging it different amounts, and I think it was best at a 6 month age, which means that you should whip yours up this weekend too ;)
I always sub the cognac ($$) for brandy, and usually half the recipe because I am the only person who will drink this that I know!
I hadn't heard of aged eggnog before, but it sounds wonderful. Thanks for sharing the recipe and your personal experience with it!
Last holiday season was my first time making homemade eggnog, and (coming from someone who didn't think she liked eggnog) it was pretty good. Which makes it very tempting to give this a go.
I thought I wasn't an eggnog fan, until the spouse decided last year that he was gonna age some 'nog. OMFG - all those years of horrible store-bought badly flavored milk didn't prepare me for this.
Aged eggnog is like an alcohol-infused liquid custard, and it's amazing. You're not likely to drink it to the point of intoxication, as it's extremely rich; it's more of a dessert cocktail.
