What's good to air fry or dehydrate?
For Christmas, I got the household a toaster oven with air fryer. We have so far done french fries and brussels sprouts, both of which turned out great. I'm curious what else I can air fry? Any favorite recipes?
It also has a dehydrate feature and we've done apple slices and strawberry slices. They also turned out pretty good. (I think I needed to leave them in for maybe an extra hour or two because they weren't quite crisp.)
Cauliflower wings are a staple in our household, and one of the main reasons we got an air fryer.
Oh good idea on the tomatoes! I hadn't thought of that. We planted a tomato plant last summer and it produced a reasonable amount of fruit. Unfortunately, the neighborhood critters got to most of them before I could. I may try again this year.
We made reeses s'mores the other day. Graham cracker + reese in for about a minute, add the marshmallow, another minute, good to go.
You may need to adjust some depending on the size of marshmallow you have.
Oh that sounds so decedent and delicious. I'm definitely trying that out!
Jerky is honestly really tasty and easy to make. My SO and sometimes I have made it several times. One thing to definitely try is dehydrating chicken. It's super tasty and also can make for good doggy treats. I only say that because my SO's dogs went crazy for them. One of them found the tin he hid them in and mangled it and managed to open it and ate the chicken jerky lol.
Apples are a tasty classic to dehydrate. Bananas are hard, at least my SO and I had a hard time of it and they weren't very good. We wanted them to be more chip like but they were just sad.
Im going to snag some of the suggestions in this thread especially about air frying. My SO has one and his family hardly uses it but I want to use it more often lol. I love air frying things because less calories than deep frying from the oil.
Oh yeah, I hadn't even thought of meats. And my dog also loves chicken, so I'm sure it would go over well with her, too. Thank you!
Most of what you have done so far seems to be vegetarian/vegan... but if you're not opposed to eating meat, I wholeheartedly second @eve's suggestion of making jerky. And IMO homemade Salmon jerky is the king of jerkies. Mmmm, I'm salivating just thinking about it. :)
And just last month, there was an It's Alive with Brad: Salmon jerky episode.
Oh, great idea! I'll check that out. Thank you both!
Lol, yeah... I dunno if I would call what he wound up creating "jerky" though. It was more like salmon leather by the time he noticed the cameraman's mistake. ;)
